Not sure if anyone else is getting inundated with lawyers advertising the class action lawsuit against Camp Lejeune, but I sure am. Commercials, online, radio, I hear about it at least once a day.

How bad did they really f up, and is anyone here potentially involved with the case?

There was a government report issued a few years ago linking the water at Camp Lejeune from the mid-50s until the mid-80s to increased risk for ALS and certain types of cancer.

being able to seek damages is part of the larger burn pit veterans bill that Jon Stewart has been yelling about so much that Biden is fixing to sign.

Lawyers are flooding the airwaves to find victims and begin prepping cases.

If you think stolen valor is a problem.......wait until you see how many false claims are made for this.

I have a patient that was having medical issues at almost the same time he received a letter from the government (this was in the late 90's) warning him of water contamination and possible health effects from the time he served there.

There were two separate contaminations. The first was the on base housing whose water supply was contaminated by the degreaser used on amphibious vehicles. The other was off base housing whose water supply was contaminated by dry cleaning chemicals.

My patient has now developed 5 different cancers, but the initial one, required a bone marrow transplant. He's had a very rough 20+ years.

It will be a fraction of the actual victims who never hear or never got the chance to hear about this.

What's depressing is what should be a rather orderly compensation settlement process will have about 30-40% of what should go to the former servicemen leeched off by lawyers.

I have to agree with you on this. How can someone, who spent 4 years on AD and never deployed, get 100% disabilty?

The lawyers will suck the life out of any settlement and the Judge will let them do it.

It truly is. The number of military vets that have manipulated this system for lifetime benefits is insane. Obviously those truly injured deserve everything they get, but I'd venture 60% of the military disability pay is going to completely bs "injuries" unrelated to military service. I was in for 8 years so I have some first hand experience seeing what is essentially corruption with this program.

They claim things like sleep apnea are related to military service. It's a sham and anyone claiming funds for such ailments should be ashamed. Sleep apnea doesn't make you a "disabled vet."

Camp Lejeune water is a different story.

Ambulance chasers began spamming radio ads about it a couple of weeks ago. In one ad, the announcer pronounced it with an "r", "la jorn". I looked it up, and apparently that is the old family pronunciation.

Ads started very suddenly, and i figured it may have just been because I was in WV at the time. However I have heard them since i got back home.

My brother was there twice before he went to Vietnam. He now has Parkinson's, PTSD, lost a lung from Agent Orange and is dealing with cancer. Damn right he's pursuing legal action, screw them if they won't take care of their soldiers. This is on the DOD & the Marine Corp.

the reason this is heating up now is because congress is supposed to be passing a bill to fund this. going to be tons of money to go around for the class action crowd

My son was USMC stationed there from Aug '88 until '92 when he was deployed to Desert Storm.
Was just recently diagnosed with Parkinson at 52 yrs old. His speech and left side are affected.
Per the TV commercials, cut off date was 1987. My question is "How do they know (100%) the problem was totally fixed in '87?"

Any Lawyers on here, have any suggestions how he should 'try and get onboard the claims wagon'???

All I've seen are the commercials on "other than NBC, CBS, ABC tv stations. If you read the fine print on these commercials, the folks putting out the call are not attorneys. They are gathering info and are then making suggestions to responders. They also have a disclaimer about not be responsible for results obtained by any attorney a responder might hire. If they are still in place it seems like a scam to get by the "direct solicition by attorney" laws that used to be present.

I would contact one the lawyers handling the claims and ask them. You may have to call several.

Absolutely 100% correct. Drives me nuts!

"Buddies" telling me to go to the VA and apply for bogus disability. "You could get 25-30% disability easy"

Feckin dirtbags

Ironically, I see more Air Force DV license plates than any.... no way zoomies incurred more injuries than the others.

I talked to a guy who just got out of the Army after 20 years and the people in charge of things coached him on how to manipulate the system, exaggerate conditions and basically insinuated he was a fool for not going along with this. The fraud is completely institutionalized now. Damn shame to have this problem taint those who are really disabled.

There will be a claims process within the military somehow. If he qualifies, he won't really need a lawyer.

If someone wants to talk to an attorney, send me a DM. We've not run ads ourselves, but we're experienced with toxic torts and with injury lawsuits against the government.

Claims will be more complex than what some of the ads indicate. The Camp Lejeune Act is not yet law. The current bill is not a compensation fund, but rather allows tolling the statute of limitations for filing suit against the federal government. (Suit can be filed for two years after the Act passes.) Plaintiffs have to prove their injuries were caused by contaminated water to a federal judge in North Carolina.

From the 1950's to the 1980's two water pumping stations were contaminated with dry cleaning chemicals that epidemiology and toxicology studies link to a limited group of cancers.

Happens all the time sadly, they have whole Facebook groups about "gotta get my 100%" rating, it's a reflection of our current hand-out society and believing the government needs to provide for all (and I guess that's ok if other taxpayers are paying for it right?)
