There aren't many paths for Republicans to lose either the midterms this year or the presidency in 2024, but following OP's advice is definitely the way to get the swing voters to swing away from the Rs.

Why stop with gays and lesbians? Hell, there was a time that blacks and whites couldn't marry each other. Who am I to say that two people who love each other can't get married. If you would like to have a conversation about this being a right defined in the constitution as it is currently written, then we can talk about that.

This attitude is what converted me from Republican to Independent/Libertarian. Not everyone agrees with your moral worldview. And forcing it on people isn't going to make all gay people straight. You live in a country where gay people want to get married whether you like it or not.

I will say someone who has been around this board for Kline7, it is fascinating how this issue is even a loser for the majority of posters here. Times are a changin.

Isn't no fault divorce the thing that started the slippery slope? Or does that hit too close to home for some folks.

A better question is why do consenting adults have to get government approval to enter into a contractural relationship (marriage)? I don't have to get government approval to enter into a personal services contract or other (real estate, employment, etc...) contracts.

If you're gonna continue to bark up this particular tree, there's no need to worry about when strong, moral Republicans assume power and what they'll be able to do because there won't be a Republican president elected any time soon running on this.

A platform that includes overturning gay marriage protections will alienate every single Democrat, most swing voters, and even a decent percentage of Republican voters. Don't know how you'll cobble together a winning path starting there.

Anyone else notice that ever since Neehau caught a ban (assuming) this jackwagon shows up more often and start threads aimed at getting people to agree with the more extreme social positions?
