James credited Carnival's security team for de-escalating the chaos.

Eventually the cruise line's security crew had to call the U.S. Coast Guard to escort the ship to shore, the New York Post reported.

On Tuesday morning, when the ship arrived in Manhattan on schedule, New York police were waiting at the terminal as it docked.

At this time, it's unknown whether any guests were arrested or whether New York or New Jersey authorities will handle the incident, since it occurred on international waters.
If a brawl lasted an hour and moved from the fifth to the first floor, I wouldn't be puffing my chest out about the terrific job security did. Are you calling 'no one died' an accomplishment?

Any lawyers on here know who claims jurisdiction on this since it was in international waters?

I love cruises, even on Carnival, and have never seen anything like this. If I were to guess, this was one of the very cheap 3-4 day cruises.

I already had a list of reasons why they don't appeal to me so now I can add this story to that list. My requirements will be high cost hurdle into cold environments like the Alaska cruise.

I hear from folks who cruise that the port makes a huge difference in the make up (and thus behavior) of the folks on board.

Now - a good fight will wipe out a healthy person in minutes, so an hour indicates LOTS of participants. So how do you have enough folks to keep it going? Drunk northeasterners.

I am amazed at how many women (making an assumption on gender) move TOWARDS the brawl. I don't know the relationships of those women with the people within the brawl, but I know my wife and daughter would sprint AWAY from a brawl like that...

I've been on several Carnival cruises and have never seen a fight at all. Saw a couple have a very loud and very public argument that ended with a mimosa being thrown on the guys face, but that was it.

I'm really interested in the herd dynamics in play in the huge brawls. Whatever beef starts them can't involve that many people, but it soon grows to dozens.

As you mentioned, many people run towards it. Not only that, they get involved which necessitates picking a side. All of this involves people they probably don't even know.

To me, common sense would dictate moving away from the fight.

Some people move to the fight to de-escalate, then they or someone they care about gets bumped or hit, and then they become a combatant. Or they're trying to break up the fight and pull someone off someone else and they get dragged into the melee.

Been on one very nice, first class Med cruise in 2015. Will not go again due to current travel and health risks. Cost then was about $700 per day per person without air. Tours were ok but St. Peter's and Rome were fantastic.

Food was very good but it did not take too long to see that everything is around eating and drinking. I cannot eat and drink that much. So my strategy is to drive anywhere I can in the USA and enjoy the homeland.

With cruise lines maintaining vax mandates one thing we can say with certainty is that every participant in that fight is vaccinated. So at least we know it's a group of people that care about their fellow man.
