So anything that has to do with Nuclear waste disposal seems to have some National security risks associated with it correct. Our enemies for years have taken advantage of people who are easily compromised. Do this person look like they would be easily compromised???? We don't weed them out anymore, we just welcome then on in and then put them on a pedestal for all the World to see.

I also have no confidence that this person deserves the accolades anyway. Maybe so and maybe not. Just like with most things these days I have to assume first that if you're not a white straight male then you were either likely pushed through by supporters without obstacle solely in order to champion "The Cause", or on the flip side no sane person wanted to do anything out of fear for their own position.

Undergrad in nuclear engineering. Masters in nuclear engineering and policy from MIT. Many years in nuclear lobbying and waste disposal. Probably hour many qualified people for this role, but this is certainly one.

I get that, and generally I'm totally cool with people being different and such. But remember that crazy woman astronaut that wore diapers so she could race across the U.S. without stopping over some silly breakup or something (not gonna look up the details again now)?

If she was an astronaut then I'm sure she had a list of qualifications a mile long, but I'm also willing to bet anyone around her for any length of time would have said "Oh hell no, I'm never getting in a tiny spaceship for extended periods with that psycho!"

Considering the competitiveness of the astronaut program and how selective it is, as well as the fact she was a Navy captain, I highly doubt that. Looking into her background, she was also the casualty assistance officer for the family of one of the Columbia astronauts, basically taking care of everything the family needed. I don't think that's something you do or get assigned to if you're a nut job.

I think that was more a case where she had a nervous breakdown. She had an affair with a guy. He started seeing someone else as her marriage disintegrated. The someone else the other guy stared seeing was also an astronaut and pulled a mission specialist assignment she'd been hoping for. I think everything kind of collapsed on her at one time and she couldn't take it.

I care. It's unprofessional and distracting.

And it's been my observation of many years in the workforce that the primary focus of attention seekers in the workplace, is just that, receiving attention for how they appear or behave, and work product comes in second. Which should surprise no one.

Professionalism.

Here's my take. The guy has done nothing to show that he isn't qualified for the job from a managerial or technical perspective. So at least trying to be open minded (without it falling out of my head). The engineering work doesn't care if you show up in a dress, slacks, or a clown suit. As long as it gets done and done safely that's the goal.

My lingering question, to ask someone who would know, does this role require a top secret clearance? If he failed the background check or a recheck, this job might just be the soft landing spot to keep him as a 'face' of the department because this administration likes things like this.

Who knows. Would be interested to be a fly on the wall in conversations with this guy and the people in Amarillo at Pantex.
