Abortion is viewed as the lynchpin of feminism because first wave feminist theory holds that men and women can't be truly equal unless women can be freed from the "burden" of bearing children. Traditionally, women had and subsequently raised the children. In order for feminism to end these fundamental gender roles in society so that women would not be viewed as primarily responsible for not only having the children but for rearing the children, women had to have a way to not just prevent pregnancy (i.e. birth control) but to terminate a pregnancy if one occurred. Otherwise they would never be truly "equal" with men.
Without this option, the theory goes, women are mandated by nature and the ever-present inherently sexist society that is America to forever be second class citizens because of biology.
It's a pretty easy argument to make that even if this notion is true, 49 years of societal change has made the point moot. The irony of course is that one of the Justices that voted with the majority is a woman with 7 kids who, despite this alleged "burden", has managed to rise to the literal pinnacle of the legal profession.
Without this option, the theory goes, women are mandated by nature and the ever-present inherently sexist society that is America to forever be second class citizens because of biology.

The amazing thing to me is people trying to act like the guy in the truck is doing something wrong for not wanting to stop his truck so they can pull him out and beat the crap out of him while destroying his vehicle instead of the guy who is driving slowly so that anyone can easily move out of the way. And that shouldn't be problematic to anyone. In fact it should be obvious.
Men and women should be equal under the law, and women should be free to "pursue happiness" in any way they see fit, and they should be free from discrimination in those pursuits.
This also should be obvious.
But there are fundamental differences between men and women that are basic, factual and immutable. Failure to recognize this does not change that fact.
There used to be social boundaries and institutions meant to curb promiscuity. Remind me - which side tore them all down as "oppressive?"SteveA said:

The subject matter of the law and the politics behind it had no bearing on the decision yesterday. At all. Because that is politics. The ruling was about the constitution, regardless of the subject matter.

This. Planned Parenthood is a HUGE source of Dem Cash. This decision cuts into the amount that Planned Parenthood can give to Dems. That is why the politicians are so upset. Dem politicians really care very little about women or babies, it is all about the money supply.JBAggie00 said:

Women are the gateway to sex, not men. If women would stop having sex and making babies with violent and irresponsible men, humanity would be much better off.

Their god, government, has just condemned them. They feel judged. They can't bear it. I believe most of the vocal pro-death women have had abortions and can't handle the feeling of condemnation and judgement when a government restricts it. It basically means government is saying they are a bad person who did wrong. Liberals hate accountability and judgement.

Why did females evolve the way they did then? Sounds like they created their own problem. Does this prove that men are superior since men evolved in such a way that they are not affected. If women had evolved to lay eggs instead, this would not be an issue for them. Sounds like the females are to blame.
Considering they could pass a federal law tomorrow if they wanted to, I'd say most don't actually care and just want to use it for November.
