Quote:

Law enforcement authorities had enough officers on the scene of the Uvalde school massacre to stop the gunman three minutes after he entered the building, the Texas public safety chief testified Tuesday, condemning the police response as an "abject failure."

Police officers with rifles instead stood and waited in a school hallway for nearly an hour while the gunman carried out the May 24 attack that left 19 children and two teachers dead.

Delays in the law enforcement response have been the focus of federal, state and local investigations of the mass shooting.

McCraw told the Senate committee that Pete Arredondo, the Uvalde school district police chief, decided to put the lives of officers ahead of the lives of children.

So now we can adjust the quip to "when seconds matter, help is fully armed and taking a break in the hallway".

If I were a parent there I would be beyond livid. If I were a juror I'd no bill anyone who took revenge.

No kidding.

Probably why they've been slow-walking this information out - we wouldn't want their narrative of law-abiding gun owners being the problem to get muddled.

The real question is how he survives. There were times in history where these guys would have been massacred for this kind of cowardice.

Leftist: "Give up your guns and trust government LEOs to protect you!"

Also Leftists: "So just FYI, technically speaking our LEOs have no legal obligation to put themselves in harms way to protect you. Plus we took away their budgets and don't let them hire anyone who might actually go after bad guys or enforce the law. But don't let that stop you from giving up your guns and just trusting us with your family's lives!"

Seeing that he has shifted blame to others and has not stepped down as being city councilman I'm going with no

Wouldn't surprise me if some of those officers had "accidents" in the coming weeks and months...

the 3 minutes is best case and really not accurate.

He shot thru the door at officers 4-minutes after he went into the classroom at which point they retreated. 10-minutes after he entered the classroom, the timeline shows they had a hooligan (crowbar like device) and a ballistic shield and could have gone in.

Reading the coms however it seems Arrenndando thought he had a hostage situation and was trying to communicate with the shooter.

I think he suffered a major paralysis by analysis and was trying to think to much about his and his officers safety, and negotiating with what he thought was a barricaded/contained suspect with hostages.

At some point you'd think he'd have said "we need to go in" and just gone in though. The timeline of the comms shows officer(s) said as much "we need to go in", but no one did.

They need to make Interim Police Chief whatever Mom that was that went over the fence to get her kids.

Okay...maybe not that...but she ought to get the actual Chief's last 12 paychecks from him.

The only folks wanting to keep this quiet is Abbott and his cronies. They have filed multiple motions to keep information under wraps with Paxton.

One such officer, a special agent at the Texas Department of Public Safety, had arrived around 20 minutes after the shooting started. He immediately asked: Are there still kids in the classrooms?

"If there is, then they just need to go in," the agent said.

Another officer answered, "It is unknown at this time."

The agent shot back, "Y'all don't know if there's kids in there?" He added, "If there's kids in there we need to go in there."

"Whoever is in charge will determine that," came the reply.

The inaction appeared too much for the special agent. He noted that there were still children in other classrooms within the school who needed to be evacuated.

"Well, there's kids over here," he said. "So I'm getting kids out."

I haven't been following this story that closely, but do we know if the police continued to hear gunshots by the killer as they stood in the hallway, or was all his killing done in the first few minutes?

  • No security footage from inside the school showed police officers attempting to open the doors to classrooms 111 and 112, which were connected by an adjoining door. Arredondo told the Tribune that he tried to open one door and another group of officers tried to open another, but that the door was reinforced and impenetrable. Those attempts were not caught in the footage reviewed by the Tribune. Some law enforcement officials are skeptical that the doors were ever locked.

Links?

It's really irresponsible to level this type of claim without providing anything to support it. Smacks of pure partisan bias. Prove me wrong.

I am not absolving him of blame, my opinion is he is NOT the only one to blame, yet I'm getting the feeling everyone else will solely point to him as the only one accountable (ie he we wanted to do something but he said no)

In the past week, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has joined the growing list of state and local officials fighting the release of records that could help bring clarity to how the emergency response unfolded during last month's deadly shooting in Uvalde.

Quote:

Abbott's office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the U.S. Marshals Service and the city of Uvalde are asking the state's attorney general for permission to withhold records that may offer tangible answers to the contradictory accounts. (Under Texas law, agencies seeking to avoid disclosure of public records typically must make their case to the attorney general.) Other government entities have asked the state for extensions as they decide whether to fight such disclosures. News organizations across the country are reporting similar responses.

So basically, it's news agencies, like the Texas Tribune, making these claims of a coverup.

In most cases, however, the agencies argue that releasing such information could interfere with ongoing law enforcement investigations by the federal government and the Texas Rangers, an arm of DPS now tasked with investigating its own department. In a statement, Abbott's office said that, upon completion of the investigations, "we look forward to the full results being shared with the victims' families and the public, who deserve the full truth of what happened that tragic day."

Kind of what I expected. Media getting upset that they aren't immediately provided all of the available data in the middle of an ongoing investigation. I don't completely disagree (in my own belief) that sadly there are likely political shenanigans, but that article is garbage.

Correct. As the IC he owns what happened with the response team. Old Pedro has always struck me as the typical small-town FMC one often sees in S. Tx.

One cannot completely absolve the door teacher, and the administrators for failure to provide a secure/safe environment. The mantle of blame extends to the school board who hired an incompetent chief.
