Tanya,
I'm praying for you.
Looking forward to your checking in, and letting us know how you're doing.
Be well.

And a reminder for all you gunslingers, if someone sneaks up behind you and rings your bell that hard, it doesn't matter if you're armed, they're getting your stuff and running, and you will likely be too fuzzy to get a clean shot.
It's good to carry, but it's not foolproof.
Situational awareness is your best form of self defense. Criminals are predators and look for weaknesses in potential victims. They target you just like a lion does it's prey. Pay attention to your surroundings especially when exiting stores or walking in parking lots. Pause a second when exiting a store, restaurant etc and scan the parking lot. Note anyone who is just hanging out or sitting in a car. Also watch for vehicles just circling the parking lot. If necessary take another route. Don't be afraid to turn around and go back inside and if necessary ask management for an escort to your vehicle.
Too many folks are oblivious to their surroundings and most have their head buried in their phone. Stay off your phone, keep your head up and look folks in the eye. And that doesn't mean give them the Clint Eastwood gunfighter stare. Just a quick glance to let them know you are aware of their presence. You can even give them a quick smile. What a novel act in todays society right?
Be especially careful as you get further out in the parking lot and near your vehicle. Ever watch people load groceries in their car? Complete lack of situational awareness. Especially if they have kids in tow. With inflation and the lack of consequences for shoplifting and other crimes, we can expect to see more of this.
Sorry this had to happen. Let this be a learning experience for everyone here. If any good can come from it, it just may save someone else from experiencing the same thing that could have had a much worse ending.
Might want to hold off on the walking thing a bit.Tanya 93 said:I went for my nightly walk tonightRoadkillBBQ said:

And I moved to the other side of the street when someone was approaching.
I hope they don't think I am a racist.
But I have trouble seeing right now and don't want to come across anyone when walking. I can barely talk to people right now and my right hand doesn't work

or borrow someone's Rottweiler, German Shepard, or Malinois for your walk.

I started to address this in my first post to you and decided to delete it because I didn't want to make any assumptions.Tanya 93 said:

Thanks for checking in.
I imagine you have a bit of a rough road ahead (mentally & emotionally). Can't begin to understand what you're going through, and you will NEVER be the same as you were before this happened. I am in WA state and would love to send you a 'care package' if it might lift your spirits (a little?). If you're not comfortable with that, I completely understand. Continued prayers going up for you and family.
On this gun fight, the winner already had his weapon loaded. I have been battling this decision lately and I moved from the HK.40 LEM trigger to a Kimber 1911. I feel uncomfortable because of the hammer being drawn and the only thing preventing a misfire is the exposed safety.Quote:

Friend,
That black eye is no joke. Expect the bottom of your eye to turn black as well since the fluid has to drain somewhere. The facebook pic was absolutely freighting. I'm so sorry that this happened to you.
Take care of yourself!

Yeah, I struggle with this one as well.
I typically don't chamber a round because I don't want their to be a misfire and that's the most confident way to prevent it.
However, in the Brazil incident if the good guy had tried to chamber it he'd be the dead one. It just happens so fast. Same thing for the guy that saved that church from being shot up a year or two ago.
And it's honestly the same question in my house. I've done a lot to decrease the time it takes me to access my defense gun but it's still not zero. At home the dogs hopefully buy me a few seconds.
Glad you are ok. I pray healing for your black eye.Tanya 93 said:

So sorry Tanya, and yes please look at self defense too. I just took a 4 session women's class that was offered for free from my local police department, it's called R.A.D. (Rape, Aggression Defense). You can see if any of the agencies around you are offering it once you feel up for it.Independence H-D said:
Also, HIGHLY recommend training not just with the firearm. Also include self defense. Krav Maga is a great way to get in shape, increase situational awareness and learn how to end attacks with enthusiasm. Seriously.
