Cops should have just handed their guns over to the parents and let them go in.

Well that's the worst idea yet.

All she did was create more chaos for everyone trying to help. Civilians do not need to be interfering in the middle of an ongoing situation. This will end badly when an innocent person trying to help gets shot.
I can hardly think of a worse take on this situation.

The history of the United States is full of 'civilians' stepping into dangerous situations and heroically saving lives. 'Waiting on the experts' often costs live, and like did again in Uvalde. On top of that, the 'experts' often fail with similar results as the 'civilians'

Teddy Roosevelt would like to have a word...
You can't fix stupid.

Nothing is worse than standing their with your guns and your body armor doing nothing while children are being slaughtered.

An armed hysterical parent shooting a kid would be.

Worse than 20 kids dying? Wait, that already happened....

Yes.

One more would be worse.

Why not let the cops simply do what they do and pick up the pieces after the fact?

The only chance any of them had is an armed faculty/staff.
They don't have the incentive. It isn't their kids and they can not possibly care as much as a parent does.
You can't rely on or trust that a responding officer will have the right mindset. Putting on the badge doesn't automatically make you SOF operator who is at ease in such situations.
Multiple, maybe dozens, of ways for information to breakdown.
Multiple agencies responding with mass confusion and wondering who is in charge.

Sticking to the current model is not wise or credible at this point.
