One of the most noticeable trends in quite sometime is how advertisers are pushing for acceptance of obesity in females. Watching the Aggie baseball game today, I saw a commercial for a Microsoft product (Surface?) and the obese white woman in the ad explained how the product helps her grow her business of selling clothing for obese women. She said it was a true need or something to that effect. Each day brings a new story or magazine cover with an obese woman being the picture of healthy.

Just a strange trend that confuses me. Again, might just be the powers that be way of getting people to believe that 2+2=5. No thanks.s

Most women are concerned about their looks much more than men, even if they only recognize it at a subconscious level.

Men see a fit dude, and don't really care. Good for him for grinding and making it happen.

Women see a fit lady and obsess about unrealistic expectations.

On the subject of unrealistic expectations, the next time you accidentally venture into a Target, or really any store with mannequins, you'll notice the female ones come in a range of sizes and shapes, while the male ones come in two sizes/shapes: ripped abs and pecs, or slightly less ripped abs and pecs.

Well it's sort of funny because obesity on a Wall-E level is more realistic than all the gay/trans ads or the 4-5 HIV drug commercials airing these days.

However the point is well taken: destroy healthy lifestyle image and promote gluttony type body types because sugar, transfat, etc sure enable a life time of prescription drugs whereas a healthy lifestyle doesn't make pharma any money.

In short, it's complicated.

Americans are too soft emotionally these days. If an ad offends you because the models are more attractive than you are, then you're a loser. Ads are supposed to be aspirational. That's what sells. I think the line should be drawn with photoshop and surgically modified models, and steroid made physiques. Advertising with natural models is not showing unrealistic goals. Mens fitness with juice heads however is.

Watch the Abercrombie&Fitch documentary to see how effective good looking models are for branding. The brand was built on using hot models. So was Victoria Secret, and VS using fat models totally killed their brand and sales.

These brands are committing suicide. It's like they never studied advertising, shocking really.

I thought rural farm women had child bearing hips, and a robust physique able to engage in manual labor.

There is definitely a trend in Local Houston tv stations to have fat and/or ugly women as hosts on the news shows.

Nationally, it seems CNN has adopted an if you can't beat 'em join'em policy and copied Fox News some. Their women actually are using makeup and wearing dresses. Even that whiney b**** on ABC put some makeup on last time I saw her.

Fat normalization in women is pandering to minorities.

The baseline of this discussion should be 'self discipline'. Political correctness in all its manifestations is simply the destruction of individual and societal self discipline. Because the majority of people are unable to control and discipline themselves to maintain a heathy weight and good appearance, the media in all its forms lowers the standards to seek the lowest common denominator in the pursuit the dollar.
