So wait, the person named to be the head of governing disinformation is resigning and the program is being shuttered/paused because of what they claim is disinformation online? More likely, they realized there would be too many fact checkers proving what they classified as disinformation is actually true and Elon's acquisition of Twitter would take away their cover.

Attacking faceless institutions is difficult, so a figurehead (almost always a woman or person of color) is found to serve as its face. Whether that person has actual power within that institution is often immaterial. By discrediting those made to represent institutions they seek to bring down, they discredit the institution itself."
