What nation is doing well at the moment? Japan has an aging population crisis. They would be devastated if they lost a chunk of their 20s population.
America is on a crash course for pain thanks to ESG.
Western Europe well they haven't been relevant for 80 years at this point.

So why?

So the islands have 20k people and very little of value. Russia isn't going to attack Japan. So why in the hell should Japan risk a nuclear response to get back some rocks in the ocean that really do nothing for them? It essentially is the gateway to the Sea of Okhotsk which has.... nothing in it. It's literally just a few lightly populated towns on the outskirts of the wasteland of the Western Coast of Russia.

China attacking Taiwan makes sense for Japan to get involved, this does not.

I don't know why you use the term "wanna be".

Church attending Russian Orthodox spend 4-5 times as much time in Church than the average Church attending American. They do it standing even as the very old and children. I've watched 90 year olds that can barely walk do dozens of prostrations in a single service for hours. Some services run 6-8 hours standing.

They are Trinitarian in their beliefs (interestingly enough if not for the Orthodox you would not believe in the Trinity or have the Bible) and set 99% of your belief system for you at the start and have not changed since.

You may not agree with the politics of the country but you can't question their Christianity. It's either ignorant of Christian history or you have a strange set of beliefs.

I can see that a Protestant or Roman Catholic is Christian even if they worship different.

Putin is a psychopath with strong nationalistic tendencies. As history as shown us time and again, when someone like this is the sole leader of a country, it's difficult to predict what they will do. They don't think, or evaluate things, like you and me. Rational behavior can't always be expected.
