I still go to the website, sometimes to get a little news and sometimes to laugh at the opinion pieces (Jill Filipovic in particular). They started putting stuff that was always a free click behind a CNN+ paywall. I wonder how long that will last.Captain Positivity said:

The CNN article on this is buried down their website. It is co-authored by Brian Stelter and they are in complete denial mode about the true reasons for cancellation. They are still claiming the launch was wildly successful. This was all just a result of the merger with Discovery and different visions for digital content moving forward.
And here I thought CNN Plus was just a new nickname for Brian Stelter

Air America was by no means a successful venture and it was vastly more successful than CNN+. It was around for years.Burdizzo said:

CNN+ just shattered the record for the shortest time between launch and shutdown of a streaming service previously held by Quibi. #CNNPlus pic.twitter.com/862NS3BgP4

Initially, he has said he wants CNN to be a news first (meaning less editorialist) channel. I'm guessing he's thinking there is a market in the middle between MSNBC and FNC. Nothing really to lose and it makes sense if they actually do it.Bunk Moreland said:fasthorse05 said:I thought ATT still owned it, amongst the rest of their $150 billion in debt.Bunk Moreland said:

Well, wonder what Warner was thinking to buy that cow pie?
Discovery purchased WarnerMedia from AT&T.
WarnerMedia owns tons of entities including WB, DC, HBO, CNN, TNT/TBS etc.
So once Discovery got full control (less than 2 weeks ago), first order of business was apparently cutting CNN+ out.
As for CNN's cable channel...it'll be interesting to see what if any changes are made now that Chris Licht is in place.

Oops.Today marks the launch of CNN+. In my opinion, CNN+ is likely to be as important to the mission of CNN as the linear channel service has been these past 42 years. It would be hard to overstate how important this moment is for CNN. 1/x pic.twitter.com/wvag0wHROV

The problem is there aren't enough important straight news stories to fill up 24-7-365 programming, so all the news channels have to fill time with opinion shows and even their straight news programming often involves bringing in a couple of pundits to squabble with each other about a story after the anchor presents it.YouBet said:Initially, he has said he wants CNN to be a news first (meaning less editorialist) channel. Yeah, I don't see how it can be successful unless they completely diversify their content. IOW, show news related programming at set times during the day interspersed with completely different, non-news driven programming.ActualTalkingThermos said:The problem is there aren't enough important straight news stories to fill up 24-7-365 programming, so all the news channels have to fill time with opinion shows and even their straight news programming often involves bringing in a couple of pundits to squabble with each other about a story after the anchor presents it.YouBet said:Initially, he has said he wants CNN to be a news first (meaning less editorialist) channel. And heaven forbid it's an ongoing event where you get one little piece of information at a time and then spend 20 minutes with a panel of people who sit there musing about that one piece of information and how it might be significant until some new fact comes in to start the process over.

Let's just say there is demand for live streaming news content, but not opinion. A place for people to go for live breaking news just like CNN was during its early days. I'm not convinced that demand exists, but even if it does CNN has run its name into the ground.
CNN could have given every American a check for $1 million with the money they spent on CNN+
