G Martin 87 said:Referring to these as simply "variations" is not telling the whole truth. These are abnormal chromosomal mutations caused by errors during replication. They are not the same as differences in eye color, earlobe attachment, or the ability to roll one's tongue. Some of the effects of extra X or Y chromosomes can be severe. As you noted, these are very rare medical conditions.Underdog91 said:Clob94 said:
This is simply a semantic argument over words. Remember when Bill Clinton argued over what the definition of "is" was?
Same thing. It's easier to start referring to people of this lifestyle by their chromosomes at birth-- XX or XY. For 3 reasons-
1. It's true
2. It will drive them bananas.
3. You can't be accused of discriminating.
This is a nice way of looking at it but there are actually 9 known genetic variations possible, ranging from XXXXX to XXXXY, with combinations in between. This includes XX & XY. The variations each have a birth rate of about 1/1000. And since there are nearly 300M people in the US, that potentially equates to 300K affected.

Do I buy that some people are born with a brain that is not congruent with their genitalia? Yes, I buy that……but this is madness and has to stop.
