"One of the most important products for new parents is in short supply. Baby formula, which three-quarters of babies in the U.S. receive within their first six months, is increasingly out of stock at retailers across the country"

I miss Trump. Babies do too!

Man, if only all those liberal women hadn't cut their breasts off and pretended to be boys.

Short version:

The maker of Similac issued a recall after some babies got sick. Parents tossed that brand and went to the others - causing a shortage. They haven't caught back up yet (and I'm sure supply chain problems are making it worse) - but we're not at apocalyptic levels yet.

No kids so educate me.

I fully recognize the important of formula to many families when mom doesn't produce enough, kid can't/ won't latch, or other problems.

But it seems to me that would be the exception, not the rule in terms of species survival.

Why the popularity of dismiss when the expense is tremendous?

Because breastfeeding is time consuming and inconvenient for many women so many choose not to do it. Since there is an alternative, it's not an uncommon choice.

I have spent 4 years of my life breastfeeding my kids and I wouldn't say it's all sunshine and unicorns. Worth it, but not easy.

Kid number one was adopted so exclusively formula fed. That led to my wife and I having roughly 50-50 responsibilities for middle of night feedings in the early months. That experience plus having a kid who developed very normally led to my wife and I not having a philosophical bias inherently against using formula, however the science and data does show that breast-feeding is beneficial for immunity in babies.

For our second kid (bio) months of multiple middle of night feeding wake ups take their toll on mom. Either pumping or using formula to supplement is an easy way to give her a break a couple nights a week. Additionally the constant cycle of pumping daily gets pretty old and making formula helps stop some of the crazy time and inconvenience for mom.

Something tells me you haven't had kids ... my wife is breast feeding and it's going well, but we even had to use a specialist before he was getting enough milk to not need to supplement. Many of our friends either couldn't due to supply issues or either supplement/primarily use formula due to issues with latching or pumping for working moms.

daycare and having to pump at work.

I know this is hard to believe, but women in retail and food service don't usually have a place to pump.

Never warmed up or washed bottles for the kid, seems like that would be a big PIA.

Can confirm. It's awful. Mixing formula sucks too. But pro lazy tip babies can get used to cold milk.

Pretty sure the formula actually killed a couple of babies.

How terrible Pete and his husband adopted two kids. You guys need to pick a narrative, but adoption by single people, same sex, or traditional male/female couples is a good thing if you value children being born and subsequently raised in good homes.

Mine never came in sufficiently to feed. That was 1980, and I felt guilty as hell.

It's been going on for months , genius.

The person you responded to doesn't have a clue.

This is from the original recall announcement. Feel free to look it up:

"The recalls have exacerbated ongoing shortages of infant formula due to supply-chain issues."

The recall didn't "cause" the shortages. Dawnquard, whoevers sock that is, is most likely a gaslighting Lib.

Edit : dropped the incorrect statement about date.

My school had even set a schedule for me so I could go feed my boy during they day.

Never came in.
I tried to pump and dump after I got put on the BP medication for post eclampsia, but there was nothing to dump.

Enfilmil for the win.

I can tell who has kids and who doesn't.

Breast feeding can be a very difficult and time consuming process.

We had our first one in February. My wife pumps and we use a bottle about 80% of the time now. Our daughter had the lip/tongue tie problem and we had to laser cut her mouth to be normal, so breastfeeding has been a very painful and difficult road for both… even after seeing a lactation consultant covered by insurance.

We had to supplement with formula every now and again, so thankful for options.

FYI but Breast milk sells for $30 an ounce at a clinic near our place in FW.

The recall happened 2/17. Supply was stressed beforehand, but not like this. I had my son 2/10. He's breastfeeding but we had to supplement just a little in the beginning. Its been hard to find his preferred formula. I know people who had their babies in Feb that need special formula and they will drive to 10-15 stores to find one can.

1. Formula invented 150 years.
2. Beautiful lovely breasts handled the job quite nicely until then.
3. There's no problem - this is crap- because we got breasts!
