Does this shortage include the cart girl snacks and beer on the golf course or is that still going to be a safe space???

Americans not willing or capable of suffering...unlike the Depression/WWII generation. If it comes to that...would not want to be a member of law enforcement or National Guard.

If our power grid is ever destroyed, two thirds to three fourths of our population will be dead within three months either by starvation, murder, or suicide, especially in the cities.

We think a real "struggle" or "hardship" is when Wi-Fi goes in and out for a bit…or when someone calls you the wrong pronoun or says a word you don't like. We are absolutely F***ED if we ever have any real shortages of any kind. Even if it's the type of shortage where it's not the end of the world, the panic induced overreaction will be chaotic and violent. Get the F out of the cities as soon as there is any type of real shortage or struggle.
Screw that, I'm staying. I've always wanted to be a warlord. I'll run my cul-de-sac with an iron fist. My soccer mom harem will be second to none.
Me too. I aint going anywhere. I have a lake within walking distance for fish and water and plenty of deer within easy reach. Our little peninsula out here can sustain itself for a long time.

You're little paradise would be overrun in short order by starving masses, and you along with it

We are talking about could we handle mass shortages. Not the apocalypse.

But in the event of a catastrophe, I promise in the order this would go my little paradise would be pretty far down the list. I wouldn't want to be in one of those suburbia neighborhoods right off an interstate a few exits down from the masses. Those would fall first. If it got to us it's all over anyways for most people.

I think most people in this thread overestimate the proactivity of Dem-voting city dwellers. This isn't Ukraine, Syria, or Serbia where people are going to get out there and figure out how to survive.

It's much closer to NOLA after Katrina, where people will wait until the government shows up to feed them and provide clean water.

I have no idea who the author is, but if the facts are indeed facts, then I suspect some places will actually have shortages.

If there are any shortages, I'd bet they'll be politically allocated to specific states.

Speaking of a distraction
It's the 3rd and 2nd world that will be screwed. The 1st world will be paying a lot more, but will still be able to find food. Actually might be good for the health of this nation if we had a few more hungry folks.
I agree, although I hate to write in a manner that paints conservatives as playing God by being happy fellow Americans will be going hungry, similar to the Dems running up gas prices to stop exploration by threatening banks and hurting our poor with high prices.

I don't want anyone to be hungry, but if Americans had an opportunity to see how about 3/5 of the world regularly lives, or has to live, the enlightenment would be good.

Capitalism will find a market.

Shortages?
Someone will supply.

Just the nature of the system.

Just like any other "would be" crisis. Some will handle it well, some won't.

We have built a mostly, ignorant, selfish, pampered society of people that never used a paint brush, hammed a nail, planted a shrub or washed their car etc. There will be much whimper and whining.

Yep.

Adam Carolla had a funny bit a few years ago about how half of American parents can't even feed their kids and are reliant on free school meals.

Even animals with a brain the size of a fingernail have this figured out, yet somehow we've created a society where half of adults can't even do the most basic thing needed to survive.
