Bro, what have I ever done to ever think I would share b.s.? It was a 2022 model X. Are you saying it's not possible for batteries to drain more quickly with age and heat / AC?

They drain a bit more quickly, but to go that quickly on a "quick lunch trip" is suspect. If so, there's probably something wrong with the car.

Extreme cold can have a pretty significant effect. Heat, not so much

Given it was a plaid mode, I bet y'all decided to enjoy the Plaid mode multiple times during lunch. I know I would have if I had the car for a limited time. That drains the battery quickly if used to its full capability which I am sure y'all done.

I suspect the Cabin Overheat Protection was using the A/C instead of being set to "fan only" for that time period b/w arriving at work and lunch

I will still take it was due to Plaid mode. It was a rental and we all know how you are supposed to treat a rental, especially one that is a shade over 2.0 0-60. I know what I would be doing at every stop sign and red light.

I have been keeping my car at 71 degrees pretty often during errands without a major impact

If they can pull this off and at a reasonable price, it would be the holy grail for a lot of issues, not just EVs. That said, I will believe it when I see it like most things that seem too good to be true.

They can't even make a washer/dryer that lasts 5 years. No way they found a way to do this unless they stole it from another company.

There's always some wonder-battery breakthrough that is 'just about to happen.' I notice the Samsung claim is they will put this in 'very high end vehicles' in a few years. IOW, it's gonna be pricey. Every week for the past 30 years. I read one last week (or the week before?) that was going to use a crap ton more silver.

EV's cost 20 percent more to patch up.

VW walks back EV battery expansion plans due to…shifting market forecasts.

Amid far lighter than expected EV sales, auto makers are turning to the plug in hybrid which can go 20-40 miles or so before the gasoline engine turns on.

We've been telling them this is the way for years now.

What I would like to know is if the major automakers made their plans assuming the California mandate supported by the administration to go all electric in 10 years drove their stupidity or if they thought they were going to have the growth rates Tesla was enjoying at the time or if they thought they were going to be that much better than the competitors and get the lions share of market growth. It was probably some combination of the three but shows a lack of understanding the market and its potential.

As for European adoption rates, there they may end up closer because I think a lot of those countries will stick the customers with mandates to buy EVs. Given even policies that they are sticking with that are even more ridiculous than EVs, I sure don't want to be invested in their stock markets.

Something like 60 brand new Rivian BEV's burn out in a massive blaze by the factory it sounds like:

At least they were parked outside, it appears. Hopefully Rivian had them as inventory properly insured. I think they are making something like 20K vehicles a quarter, so maybe not that big a deal.

Most EV's are leased:
Quote:

The rules around federal EV tax credits changed at the beginning of this year, making it more difficult for vehicles to qualify. Even so, buyers can get around the rules by leasing an EV, which opens the door to the full $7,500 credit regardless of the model. That loophole has driven an explosion in EV leases, with recent data showing that almost half of new electric models in the U.S. are leased.

The data comes from S&P Global Mobility and TransUnion. It shows that 48.7 percent of new EVs on America's roads are leased, up from 33.6 percent in the same quarter of 2023. Financed EVs declined to 34.7 percent, and cash sales accounted for just 16.6 percent.
Makes sense.

That does make sense, especially if a company is leasing them and taking that as an expense.

You're also not stuck with a used battery. And lease mileage limits might work for short urban commutes which resident fanboys insist these EVs are good for. So if you're not going to drive it over 7500 miles in year anyway, lease it and give that puppy back in two years.

Yeah, if I were to get an EV for something, say to work a Lyft/Uber job, I would certainly try for a lease agreement rather than be responsible for an old EV later. What if insurance goes UP instead of down as the EV gets older?

I didn't go to lunch with them, but it wasn't far and they are scared women (speed wise), so I would think it's something like this where it drained after getting to work and before lunch. First day driving an EV and I'm certain they don't know how to operate it. Still, the charging stuff was a nightmare.

You're creating an argument where there isn't one. My example wasn't proving EVs are bad. It proved if you need to use a charger outside of your home you're pretty much f'd up in Texas. I would imagine the coasts are much better for public charging but not here.

One poster already mentioned Chargepoint fell by 95%. Economics and reality speak the truth. Public charging sucks.

Exactly. But you let her experience define what yours would be. You'd have a home charger. You wouldn't run into the same issue.

I doubt it would be better in the coasts if you have to rely on the non Tesla chargers. I am sure ChargePoint et al still are slow and frequently broken down there as well. Why they can't build something like the Tesla Superchargers in terms of quality and reliability is beyond me.

You can say that but the renter was in tears trying to find a charger that worked. Call people stupid or idiots but it's their experience with them that matters. If you work wish people who don't get technology you should be able to see the correlation.

We get that. But you should know better in regards to how it would apply to you as a potential owner.
