With Tesla no except if you are at a high usage supercharger in which case it warns you of that. If you need to charge to 100% in that case, it is one tap on the app or in the car.

The 200k mile claim is based on real world data from Tesla's mostly built before 2016. The newer batteries are believed to be better at retaining capacity.

Took this screenshot of the Tesla app on my phone. There's a slider where you can see whatever max charge rate you want. I leave it at 80.

Tesla has been doing it for a while but it is 100% charge and then the idle fees kick in if most of the charging stations are in use.

ETA, you don't want to regularly charge your EV above 80% due to battery degradation. This is the real killer of battery life and not fast charging like you frequently claim.

I have been told that Tesla batteries last to 100,000 miles easy. Battery life should not be killed by real world use from what I understand, as told by those who should know.

There is no need to charge to 100% every time in real world use.
And even if you are the rare person that does it, it will still last to 100,000 miles based on real world data. You might start risking the 200,000 mile range though.
It is easy to set the charge to whatever level you want. I normally drive 60-100 miles per day, so I set mine for 75% unless I expect to need more. I set it at 95% before a long trip, and 85% before Beryl

Tesla's "wall connector" advertises up to 44 miles of range added per hour at 48a. That's pretty accurate from what I've seen through a month of using it. Plenty fast for home charging imo

About 30 miles every hour or so. When I bought my Tesla they still included the mobile charger for free. So rather than mount a wall charger I just dropped a nema 6-50 outlet myself with 250v 50amp run.

Put differently, it would take a little under 6 hours for him to go from 20-80% which is why charging at home with a 240 plug is no issue to keep the car going for daily driving. .

Backlash in Korea.

https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2024/08/17/carmakers-scramble-to-calm-revolt-against-evs-in-south-korea-after-battery-fires/

Quote:

Mercedes-Benz and BMW have reportedly disclosed the names of their electric vehicle battery suppliers in South Korea, following a recent EV explosion that triggered widespread revolt against electric vehicles.

Bloomberg reports that the South Korean units of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and BMW AG have taken a significant step towards transparency by revealing the names of their electric vehicle (EV) battery suppliers on their websites. This rare disclosure comes in the wake of an incident where an unplugged electric Mercedes-Benz sedan caught fire at an apartment complex in Incheon, South Korea, earlier this month. The explosion led to the evacuation of 200 families and sparked calls for stricter government measures on EV safety.

Typically, automakers around the world keep information about their battery suppliers confidential. However, the growing fears over EV safety in South Korea have prompted Hyundai and Kia to share the names of their battery makers in recent days. The German carmakers, Mercedes-Benz and BMW, have now followed suit as the government plans to hold a joint meeting with automakers to discuss short-term measures to prevent further EV fires.
…
Yoon Joonwon, a fund manager at DS Asset Management Co. in Seoul, commented on the situation, stating, "It's difficult to tell at this point whether Farasis batteries are the problem, but there's a general sentiment that the risk is higher with smaller battery makers than major producers like CATL or Korean makers. Until the issue is resolved, consumer sentiment toward EVs is expected to remain deteriorated for some time."

Devastating to consumer sentiment there.
Trump will fix it.

"Some" (/Hermensa voice) EV's depreciate $600 a day.

Quote:

The depreciation of electric vehicles is far steeper than data showed just last year. EVs can now lose up to half their value over a single year, based on recent observations. This is a sharp shift from when electric cars were projected in December 2023 to lose half their value in three years. However, the factors causing plummeting values might be good for drivers down the road.

Wired examined the current EV depreciation trend in the U.K. and U.S. markets. Some models were noted as being worse at holding their value than others. In Britain, the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Polestar 2 lost 52 percent of their sticker price in 12 months compared to their trade-in value. The Tesla Model 3 faired better, only losing 45 percent over 12 months and 10,000 miles.

However, the worst vehicle was the Mercedes EQE. The electric sedan lost almost 50 percent of its value in only 12 weeks, depreciating at a rate of $615 per day. Wired laid out all the reasons why depreciation is so high across the market:
Quote:

Factor in the even higher costs of electric cars and their optional extras, plus the omnipresent concerns of EV range and charging infrastructurethen look at how quickly EVs are improving with every facelift, with new models gaining extra range, performance, and charging speed over their predecessorsand soft residuals are bound to occur.

Ford backpedals further on EV's. Green rude squeal:

Quote:

How it's actually going, in Detroit:
Quote:

Ford Motor is canceling plans for a large electric sport-utility vehicle and expects to take $1.9 billion in related special charges and write-downs, as automakers continue adjusting their EV plans because of softer-than-expected demand.

The Dearborn, Mich., automaker this spring said it would delay plans for an electric three-row SUV by two years to a 2027 release date. On Wednesday, the company said it is scrapping the model altogether, citing tough pricing pressure as automakers resort to aggressive discounts to move their EVs.

The company also pushed back the launch of a new electric pickup truck by one year, until 2027.
Why? The demand has not materialized, in large part because consumers want range and reliability more than they want fashion and virtue-signaling. Ford has finally realized this, and it will cost them a fortune for a redirection away from the Green New Deal zero-fossil fuel agenda of the Left. CNN reports that Ford will instead look toward hybrids as their option for the climate-conscious consumer:
Quote:

Ford on Wednesday acknowledged America's electric vehicle market just isn't what the automaker expected it to be: Customers are increasingly price-conscious and range-anxious. So, Ford is making big changes to its EV plans, focusing on hybrids and affordability. ...
"We learned a lot as the No. 2 U.S. electric vehicle brand about what customers want and value, and what it takes to match the best in the world with cost-efficient design, and we have built a plan that gives our customers maximum choice and plays to our strengths," said Ford CEO Jim Farley in a statement.

South Korea moves to ban fully charged EV's from parking garages.

We need legislators to draft similar language, imho. Underground, and within attached residential parking garages.
    Quote:

    • Strict new parking regulations for EVs are due to come into effect by the end of September.
    • The rules come just weeks after a Mercedes-Benz EQE caught fire in the parking area of an apartment complex.
    • EV experts say there's no evidence EVs with fully charged batteries pose a greater fire risk.

Authorities in Seoul are so concerned with the risk of EVs catching fire that they are preparing new rules that will prevent those with a battery charged over 90% from entering underground parking garages.

Earlier this month, a Mercedes-Benz EQE burst into flames while parked in an underground parking garage at an apartment complex, triggering an inferno that local media estimates damaged 880 nearby vehicles and left 1,600 households without electricity and water for a week. To try to avoid similar incidents in the future, the Seoul Metropolitan Government is stepping in.
I would also support requiring camera/under-body surveillance for EV's prior to charging.

So no EV's over 90% in a parking garage? So basically it won't ban anything since standard practice is to never charge over 80% unless you're taking a lot trip the next day.

Explosives, which are analogous in some ways (not the duration but degree of danger relative to size), are heavily regulated for many good reasons. Again, the class of fires EV's represent are just different vs. other devices/cars.

Edit: for instance, you are living in an apartment and then unbeknownst to you some fellow resident buys a sketchy used EV and sets it to charge to 100 percent 5 floors below you from a spot you never see. This is something that while your heirs could sue for damages from the owners, the city/government might be best positioned to prevent the harm from happening.
