A state appeals court has reinstated a temporary injunction that prohibits Texas from conducting child-abuse investigations into families that provide gender-affirming medical care to transgender adolescents.

The Austin-based 3rd Court of Appeals, ruling Monday night, said the investigations cannot take place until it determines whether Gov. Greg Abbott acted properly when he ordered gender-affirming care to be treated as child abuse.

Responding to a lawsuit filed by parents under investigation for providing gender care to their 16-year-old, state District Judge Amy Clark Meachum of Austin issued the injunction on March 11, ruling that Abbott's directive exceeded his authority and violated the rights of transgender adolescents and their families.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton quickly asked the 3rd Court of Appeals to overturn Meachum's order, arguing that his appeal froze the injunction.

Evil.

Like always, the state Supreme Court will have to clean up the mess caused by all the Beta judges.

But the 3rd Circuit will likely drag this out for months or longer like they did with the mask mandates, so the SC can't rule.

What the F is gender "affirming"?

That sounds like unscientific bull**** to my finely tuned bull**** detecting intuition.

There is gender dysphoria therapy in which the individual with such a psychiatric condition discusses issues and challenges they are facing with the condition and are helped to find the best way for that person to deal with those issues, but a true clinical psychologist isn't out there just "affirming" the impulses and behaviors of subadults. That would be unscientific and inappropriate for therapeutic assistance. If someone's behavior is causing them troubles or distress, simply indulging it isn't giving them the actual help they may require. It may turn out that the best therapy for the individual is in fact to role play their dysphoria, but the term affirmation implies that is the rote prescriptive solution.

This order does not address surgery. No child genital mutilation is being done. Minors cannot get sex change surgery, and that was true before Abbott's order.

But you and everyone here already knew that. You are just saying "mutilation" because it gets more reactions.

There is a laundry list of things that can't be done to minors or in their name that would be considered child abuse.

I would get in the way of a parent hitting their kid, starving their kid, or raping their kid, and be damn proud of it.

This is just a variation of that "getting in the way".

I understand you dont agree with it, but gender affirming care can be life saving for some kids. Gender dysphoria is a serious mental condition. Minors commit suicide in huge numbers because they believe they were born in the wrong body and hate themselves for it. Sometimes medical professionals prescribe reversible hormonal therapies to help them transition and when they do so, they report much better mental health and happiness. Naturally, suicides go down.

Abbott and Paxton think they know better than these parents and their doctors, and they are being these families' strict father laying down the law.

Bottom line is it's no one's business what these families do, and it's wrong to forcibly remove these kids from the home and throw them into a broken foster system on this basis.

It definitely is the state's business to protect children from their parents' bad decisions in some cases, like sterilizing them for life because they wear and Elsa dress at 8 years old. They can be coddled while they pretend to be a firetruck, a dog, a horse, a cowboy, an indian, a princess, a knight etc without changing their lives. No physical transitioning is a good thing before they are an adult and can make that decision for themselves, IMO.

Abbott's order should give ALL who think about changing the chromosomally defined sex of anyone not yet an adult as defined by law significant pause and long-term consideration before proceeding with the life changing alteration.

So many physically-developed adults with the mentality of wanting to sexually change children is horrifying.

I trust the American Academy of Pediatrics on these issues much more than Greg Abbott or Ken Paxton to have an opinion on what is proper medical care.
