And by the way. Treating a kid, especially a kid who is confused as hell about what they feel and why, like there's something wrong, or faulty, or broken, or embarrassing, or bad about them is the surest way to really mess them up for life and mess up your relationship with them.

Get them therapy and try to work to get to the heart of why they feel like they do so that they can understand themselves and you can help them through their childhood in as happy and healthy a way as possible. So that when they reach adulthood they can then make informed and intelligent decisions about themselves, their own self care, and their own lifestyle.

Kids look to their parents for unconditional love, support, and understanding. We don't need any more messed up people with parent issues that spend their entire lives trying to fill the empty hole of a lost parental relationship with all sorts of terrible things. It's amazing how many people there are that are messed up for life because of mom and/or dad.

What is incontrovertible in all of this is that if your handling of the situation damages a child either physically OR emotionally/psychologically then you did the wrong thing. The child, and the adult that child becomes, is the ultimate arbiter of that.

Article says the kids is 10. They moved 2 years ago. What 8 year olds have these types of confusions?

The answer is 8 year olds whose parents expose them to confusing subject matter.

Do you really rhink it's ethical to allow a ciild to irreversibly mutilate him or herself based on what could be a phase? I grew up with several "tomboys" who became feminine in jr. high or high school. What if they had been exposed to the leftist propaganda in elementary school that encouraged them to follow their feelings all the way to the clinic for hormone blockers?

We don't let kids get tattoos but this is ok?

There is no such thing as "authentically trans". It is a mental health issue. That said, a person over 18 years of age can do to themselves whatever they would like. If they choose to have disfiguring plastic surgery to attempt to mimic the appearance of the animal, vegetable or mineral that they think they really are and can find a doctor willing to perform the surgery, they are free to do as they please.

And just as no one can stop them from taking those actions, no one is required to accept their version of reality as fact.

Children however, are another issue entirely. Just as we don't allow children to drink alcohol, vote, drive and a host of other things because we recognize that they do not possess the appropriate maturity to make decisions with great consequences, that has to be recognized here as well. The decision to undertake life altering surgical and biochemical actions on their body has to be reserved for the adult individual to make, and not anyone else.
