I had read a piece in Time or Newsweek a month or so before the attack and i too said it was OBL.
Not a lot of people knew of him then though

Has anyone actually verified that person exists? It seems like a Barnes-esque thing to do. I find it funny on his retirement video they are going to play "The Airforce Song." You would think an official ceremony for someone so decorated would have "The U.S. Air Force" as the correct title.
Except the first plane came in much slower. Atta made sure he wasn't going to miss his target.HollywoodBQ said:Agreed.Satellite of Love said:
At 500 mph I think the pilot was just trying to hit his target. Dang near missed.
I was always a little skeptical about two rookie pilots hitting their targets at high speed on the first pass.

That terrorist nearly missed the second twin tower hit.
Interesting. Just out of curiosity, I looked up the crash analysis info on AA Flight 11 (North Tower) here:Rapier108 said:Except the first plane came in much slower. Atta made sure he wasn't going to miss his target.HollywoodBQ said:Agreed.Satellite of Love said:

The second pilot came in full throttle and almost missed.
The corresponding information for United Flight 175 (South Tower) here:Quote:
According to an FAA study, N334AA struck the WTC at a speed of 494 mph; an MIT study however determined the plane was probably traveling at 429 mph.
So yeah, the first plane was about 20% slower but he was still going really fast. According to Wikipedia, the cruising speed of a 767 is 533 mph. Of course the cruising altitude is 39,000 feet, not 1,000 feet.Quote:
According to an FAA study, N612UA struck the WTC at a speed of 586 mph; an MIT study however determined the plane was probably traveling at 537 mph.
So you just think the entire plane just sunk into the building when it hit? Hell, I imagine half the plane and contents probably flew out the other side of the building on impact!Satoshi Nakamoto said:SWC Ag said:Satoshi Nakamoto said:
Do people actually believe Mohammed Atta's passport was found on the streets of NYC? That blows my mind.
It wasn't Atta, it was another hijacker's. There were lots of personal items from the various planes found in the debris. Do some research before just parroting conspiracy theory sites.
There were items recovered from Columbia and it broke apart while re-entering the GD atmosphere. Weird things happen. Just because you find it hard to believe doesn't mean it didn't.
Also, I'd expect to see more recovered items from the Columbia breaking apart in open air than I would a plane embedded in a building, burning so hot and quickly said building pancakes in less than 2 hours.
Pretty much that or disintegrated or burned, yeah.Yellerjacket said:So you just think the entire plane just sunk into the building when it hit? I was answering his initial question. There would be photos of holes in both side, right?

They were hoping like hell and banking on the towers collapsing, and if you think this was some sort of government conspiracy...well, bless your heart.HollywoodBQ said:Just fact checking your facts... 1 of the 4 pilots was a Saudi (Pentagon).schmellba99 said:
Those of you that think language has changed a lot probably think Mayberry was how every town was "back in the good old days" and that grandma and grandpa slept in separate beds.
And anybody that thinks this was some sort of conspiracy and that 19 Saudi hijackers didn't fly 4 planes into the ground or buildings is a certified loon that needs to go to a state mental institution for the rest of their life and not procreate.
We also had an Emirati (South Tower), an Egyptian (North Tower) and a Lebanese guy (Shanksville, PA) at the helm of the other planes.
I'll buy this simple plan committed by as few as 5-6 people who actually knew what was going to happen much better than I'll buy a single shooter in Dealey Plaza.
And also, I don't believe they knew the towers were going to collapse. I think that was an accidental jackpot.
Not really. Some parts did - they found part of the landing gear of one of them a few blocks over in an alley several years ago, but by in large the planes imbedded in the towers and either burned (aluminum and jet fuel) or collapsed with the towers.Yellerjacket said:So you just think the entire plane just sunk into the building when it hit? I was saying that among the more popular conspiracy theories out there and the government explanations, I think 9/11 was just that simple. I think it could be that only 5-6 guys really knew it was a suicide mission and they only needed 20+ guys to execute the plan.schmellba99 said:They were hoping like hell and banking on the towers collapsing, and if you think this was some sort of government conspiracy...well, bless your heart.HollywoodBQ said:Just fact checking your facts... 1 of the 4 pilots was a Saudi (Pentagon).schmellba99 said:
