This is true.

The thing in all of this that people want to ignore is that comparison of USMNT v. USWNT is a complete red herring. The real problem the USSF had in all of this is that it couldn't just cave and give the USWNT a new CBA because they were getting bad publicity.

The real problem will come up in the next 10 or so years. What is going to happen is the USWNT will continue to get caught by the rest of the world. Their days of bottomless trophies will come to an end. The USMNT is markedly improved (for example, there is a UEFA Champions League match being played right now where one team has an American in the starting line up and wearing the number 10 kit and the other team has an American on the bench that will come on as a super-sub in the 60th minute). The USMNT is going to start making deep runs into the world cup. If they win one, the take-home for players is going to be big.

One more reason soccer is not a sport.

Who watches women's soccer, the WNBA, women's tennis, or a lot of other women's sports? Equal pay does NOT mean equal quality.

The women had guaranteed salary, plus a lot of other benefits, and a smaller bonus payout for various accomplishments.

When the USWNT was offered an identical pay structure to the men a few years ago, the women rejected it. When the women brought a lawsuit last fall, it was dismissed, because the judge found that not only did the women make more total money than the men, they also made more money per game than the men. After that dismissal, US Soccer again offered the USWNT the exact same pay as the men's team, and the women rejected it again.

Short answer- the women were given a gift because their media blitz was successful. This settlement is a joke, and the men should be pissed.
