Sean Penn like most folks in Hollywood is at his core a narcissist and politics simply drives from that narcissism. He has a desperate need to feel superior to everyone and everything and liberalism fuels that far better than conservatism even though the politics themselves are less relevant. He has no ability to think beyond his own perspective and feelings because he thinks of himself as being smarter and better than everyone so their opinion is irrelevant.
