Here's one for ya... Dad orders a smoothie for 17 year old son. Requests no peanut butter. Employees include peanut butter anyway. Kid drinks smoothie and goes into full near-death anaphylactic shock. Requires hospitalization.

Dad returns to smoothie store and goes ballistic. Full meathead. Throws smoothie at employee and hurls insults. Employee videos the rant and post to TikTok. Dad is arrested, charged with a felony, and fired from a 26+ year career at Merrill Lynch.

Aaaaand go!

Idiocy all the way around (except the poor kid).

Done.

Yeah, probably not the smartest way to handle the situation. He had a slam dunk lawsuit (still does) but now has no job.

Don't blame him for getting mad at them and being upset about his son; but he's got to have better sense than to come back in, throw a drink, and hurl what in this day and time is considered "racist" language. Unfortunate idiocy all the way around as another poster said.

Dad should sue the employee for what little that employee owns and everything that employee will earn for the rest of their life.

I would have physically harmed the employee with a blunt object until they were in the ER right alongside my kid.

He has a better shot at getting a settlement from ML. They will probably pay a couple million just to make it all go away.

If he hadn't done this he would have gotten an 8 figure settlement from corporate.

seems like a poor decision on his part.

hopefully kid had his epi-pen with him.

can't imagine having a kid with kind of a condition. but would definitely drill it into their brains to keep diphenhydramine and epi with them at all times.

unfortunate situation all around. he asked for no peanut butter but didn't specify the allergy, so honest mistake on the employees' end. understand the anger but that's no excuse to assault a minimum wage employee.

We all sympathize with the dad in A Time to Kill.

But that was murder and this guy is white.

Dad is a dumb***. If your kid has a deadly allergy, you better be checking the food. I do.

Trust no one. Especially a fast food worker.

I don't disagree, but there should be consequences for the employee beyond simply being fired. They nearly killed someone because they were too stupid/lazy to follow clear and simple instructions.

LOL. There won't be any consequences. She's now the victim. And in this day and age, the fast food worker is now pitiable to the point of absurdity in terms of their ability to do no wrong.

Judging by my local neighborhood chat site, anyone who dares report on a bad experience at a fast food joint or restaurant is roundly shouted down as expecting too much and being a cold hearted ******* or *****.

I completely understand the dad, and had cell phones not existed, he'd have gotten his understandable frustrations out and then he at work telling the guys what he's planning to do with the settlement money. Now his future (near) is uncertain at best.

People need to remember that it takes no time for someone to pull out a phone and record something that a few decades ago they could've gotten away with. The times have changed.

Sadly, you're right. There's a lot of folks that think he should have tipped her 20% of the ER bill.

They will give him a nice severance with the promise not to sue.

And I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that was true. Social media hasn't just brought out the worst in people, it's shown just how disgusting some people truly are when they're able to be their true selves.

It's ultimately the responsibility of the father and young man to make sure you don't ingest something that can potentially kill you, especially an ingredient that is common in the product you ordered.

Yes, the father asked for no peanut butter, but why put the life of you kid in the hands of an hourly employee who really doesn't give a *****
FrioAg 00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The fact that dad relied on a minimum wage smoothie maker with just a "no peanut butter please" is ridiculous. If your kids life is that at risk he should have done a much better job protecting it.

And the fact that he went back to the store after his kid was already in the hospital was all kinds of dumb.

He has a suit and should get a nice payout - the smoothie company certainly has liability.

But ML was absolutely right to fire someone that showed this much bad judgement.

Even with an epi pen, many folks like myself still require a trip to the ER, the epi pen just gets us there before the windpipe closes. For me, went my entire life without issue but for some reason in my mid 30's I suddenly became deadly allergic to wasp bites even though I had been bitten numerous times throughout my life without issue. Wasps were one of the many reasons I left Florida for Missouri.

Bites? Or stings?
MapGuy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I believe it is bites, I've never needed to pull out a stinger when I've gone to the hospital. But it has definitely been wasps of some sort. Thankfully since moving here I haven't had an issue. Both houses I had in Florida, no matter how many times pest control came out, I always had wasp problems and without fail, I'd get bit or stung while doing yard work at least a couple of times a year.

Wasps don't lose their stingers when they sting you.

A couple of thoughts.

1) if your son is that allergic to something maybe you should
Either watch them make it or just do it yourself at home

2) totally understand the guys sentiment but would have turned out a lot better for him had he kept his cool and just sued the smoothie store barring the first point.

Not only that but if your kid is that allergic, even a half-assed washing of a smoothie machine that had peanut butter in the prior smoothie could be harmful. Buy a damn Ninja and make smoothies at home.

Didn't realize that, but that said, I wasn't sure if it was bites or stings, I just know it meant at least 8 hours in the ER when one of them got me even with my epi pen

Dad was wrong in his response. Sure he has every right to be angry, as they made a big mistake - but he went too far.

My son has a bad peanut allergy and he is very careful in any store/restaurant where peanuts are on the menu. Sometimes you just don't know, but he is very careful. You must expect people to mess up and often employees just don't know if peanuts are in the ingredients.

He once got hit by a "buffalo wing" pizza where the chicken sauce had peanuts in it as part of the sauce. Who would have thought?
