This vaccine was marketed and sold to the public to do exactly that. It is pretty easy to look that up or even do a search on F84 when people like you criticized anyone that dared question if the vaccine would even prevent infection

The primary goal was to reduce number of cases/infections a second goal was to reduce severity. Terrible at primary goal reasonably good at secondary goal

Cases =/= infections. The USA has only had 70 million or so confirmed cases, but hundreds of millions of infections. Cases are more likely to be symptomatic illnesses.

Are these vaccines not designed to prevent symptomatic illness?

The primary goal was to reduce severity. It was also sold to the public to prevent infection/transmissibility which it was successful at for alpha and has decreased in effectiveness for each variant since.

Omicron is a upper respiratory virus. It also has a folded/looped end spike protein.

The vaccines were engineered for the forked spike protein of Alpha variant that is also in the Delta variant.

Antibodies from these vaccines bond less efficiently to the Omicron spike protein.

Omicron is so contagious with such a high R value that vaccines don't slow it much, especially as they don't produce optimal antibodies for it. Fortunately, Omicron only attacks the upper respiratory tract and has classic cold symptoms, and doesn't tend to cause the deep lung and circulatory tissue damage that causes serious medical complications. The vaccines may simply be getting much credit for the different way Omicron affects the body with regards to "preventing hospitalization and death". It may be having very little positive effect on the infection, though it would help further eliminate older variants in favor of Omicron.

Bull****

This therapy was created to prevent infection and spread. Once they learned it wasn't as effective as hoped but did reduce severity, they redefined its purpose. Once they learned it would require boosters as it's effectiveness (revised purpose) plummeted after just a few months, they redefined vaccine.

Considering how far along the shot count path that Israel is and the fact that they only have 9M people in that country...shouldn't someone be asking the question as to how their infections just keep skyrocketing on a per capita basis?

It's time to end the shots and quit reporting cases. My god can it get any clearer what is happening than Israel?

the 90% efficacy figure attached wasn't compared to severe illness in the control group. it was any and all symptoms.

The polio vaccine also does not prevent infection. In fact, the polio vaccine actually caused some cases of polio.
