Why don't they adjust routing so those trains are not stopped there for any length of time?
UP only has two access points out of the port of Long Beach and this is one of those access points. These then route out of LA to Inland Empire (to the East) and then go from there. I know it's obvious but trains are not cars, they can't just reroute. If anything happens further up the line that causes a delay those trains have to slow. Usually the lines going into and out of rail yards can get pretty congested.

Meanwhile, the "shoppers" have been stealing guns from the rail cars:

" People were … breaking into these containers and stealing firearms, tens of firearms," LAPD Chief Michael Moore told his Police Commission this week, according to the paper. "That gave us the great concern as a source again of further violence in the city as people were capitalizing on the transport of these containers with having little or no policing or security services there."

Oh no! Ten more firearms that ten more criminals liberal DAs let loose on the street can shoot people with.
Trump will fix it.

I didn't mean new tracks or anything like that. Just adjusting schedules so the trains aren't stopped there for any length of time.

Of course, having law enforcement do their job in the area would probably help too.

Laugh, but I hope this spurs a big shift to blimps for trans-pacific/oceanic cargo. Don't have to stop in California. A lot of competitive economics have been studied/discussed.

Not that simple. LOTS of traffic on rail lines and various other issues that can delay some trains for hours from getting out of a yard. I've called the crew for a train before, only to have them come in and sit for 8 hours without even making it out of the yard for various reasons. Then they hit their hours of service and have to be pulled off before even moving.

Higher priority trains coming through, delays getting the right power, track maintenance, Amtrak coming through, another train stopped somewhere up the line for a hotbox detector or fails a roll-by inspection, waiting on instructions from dispatchers, pulled over by a safety tester for either a random test or safety violation, another train up the line has to set out a bad car in a siding, a train ahead of them runs out of hours and they are literally forbidden from moving the train another inch so they sit until a new crew can be called out....the issues seem endless.

Makes sense, LA is a cesspool and no cargo can pass through there without being robbed apparently
