I used to feel bad for blacks that were brainwashed to believe the cards were stacked against them, cops were out to kill them, and GOP was trying to take their vote away. Now I just feel bad for those few who aren't brainwashed.

There are numerous posts here in just the last week (Unpopular opinion thread) from the largely Republican audience of F16 that to vote you should have to pay taxes, own land, be a man, etc.

Let's not pretend that there is ZERO cause for concern re: voting rights.

The actual cause for concern is that a huge amount of the left-wing base will not vote unless it is as easy and convenient as replying to a text message once every other year. These same people are very poorly informed and easily manipulated because they place very little value on civic duty.
The people on this board are simply pointing out that it would be beneficial if there were some non-discriminatory obstacles to voting so as to discourage those who care very little about civic duty.
Those minor obstacles to voting (civics test, tax return, etc.) would be good for all of America. The only thing it wouldn't be good for is the democrat party, and that's why they're squawking so loudly. They know their base won't get off their butts to vote if there is any kind of process to it.
I am sympathetic to the idea of making election day a national holiday, however.

So this represents your defense of Whoopi Goldberg's statement?

You really believe blacks have it worse off with regard to Voting Rights than they did at the time of the Emancipation Proclamation?

You have a strange way saying "I agree with her." Why not just say it and get yourself on the record as agreeing with the rhetoric of Schumer and Biden regarding the "Bull Connor" status of all Republicans who dare disagree with the Democrat Party on any issue related to voting rights?

So because a few posters on F16 say these things, that gives license to leaders in the Democrat Party like Schumer and Biden to continually lie and gaslight about voter suppression, return to Jim Crow era policies, claim blacks are disenfranchised by being asked to show an ID to vote (a completely and utterly racist notion in and of itself). I dont' see any Republican politicians putting laws in place attempting the things you say in bolded text so its a complete strawman.
I believe it's what you call a slippery slope around here for a multitude of issues.

Now you're arguing against your own team?!

This is how the slippery slope fallacy is defined from a quick google search:
"A slippery slope argument, in logic, critical thinking, political rhetoric, and caselaw, is an argument in which a party asserts that a relatively small first step leads to a chain of related events culminating in some significant effect."

It's a logical fallacy and you're right, it's exactly what the dems are doing with voting rights laws. Because they're manipulative and disingenuous. They don't care one bit about the well being of America and it's people.

Weird. Making sure voters are eligible is a slippery slope?

Whoppie Goldberg is the example of the American Dream.

She's worth $60M.

She's paid $8m a year.

She's a high school drop out and a former drug addict.

Just imagine what she could have done without all those emancipation laws holding her back!

I saw tons of black people voting last year in the Presidential election. Is the argument black dont have access to polling stations? They aren't smart enough to register to vote and make their way to a station?

This cant be a serious argument.

That's not her specific argument. I believe she is saying that after last years election and black and minorities turnout Republicans sought to pass legislation to stop that from occurring in the next election.
So if I understand you correctly, You and Whoopi are tacitly admitting that the record minority turnout is only due to vast ballot harvesting and organizer gathering of blocs that would normally not go to the trouble to exercise their Civic duty?

And any legislation that is passed to reduce ballot harvesting, pay-for-votes, and other schemes that this prior election legalized and/or made easier, constitutes minority voter suppression? In other words, anything should be fair game as long as it increases minority turnout?

A. You're admitting this? B. You agree with this take?

No you understand incorrectly. My post is what I believe Whoopi was alluding to in her statement, which is also directly stated in my post in which you responded to. I don't see her mention anything pertaining to ballot harvesting, which is completely legal in large majority of states. Also don't see her mention any pay for votes, or schemes that made it easier to vote. I think you're referring to another op or someone else but these are things only you have suggested. If you believe anything should be fair in regards to minority turnout then you are free to have that opinion.

Dang. Whoopi still doesn't get to vote?

All the hand wringing and $ spent by the Dems for the past 60 yrs really hasn't helped African Americans after all I guess. Maybe it's time to take a different approach.

She's an idiot and is too stupid and full of herself to realize that her rhetoric hurts her own "cause" more than it could ever possibly help.

Don't be obtuse. Your last sentence reveals how unserious your are with respect to this argument. As usual, you're simply attempting to muddy the water because you know you have an illegitimate argument.

So how do you think this record turnout in the last election was achieved? I'm simply connecting the dots that you inferred in your post.

Who we are is God's gift to us. What we become is our gift to God.

Is it good for white folks if Dems completely demoralize a new generation of blacks into thinking they are inferior, at risk of being murdered, not eligible to vote, and entitled to welfare?

I mean, could the KKK have drawn it up any better than Pelosi and Schumer? Are Dems gonna go full native american on black community? Completely cut them out of capitalism, except for maybe a few casinos, so they death spiral into trading mail checks for liquor.

I don't want an advantage and I don't believe I have one as a white person. I don't want black people to have a disadvantage either . I fully believe any collective disadvantage they may have or perceive they have is self induced and I also believe it's designed by their so called advocates. That's the frustrating part to me. None of this racial division business is about really helping anyone, it's about attempting to consolidate political power .

Man you and third coast were a one-two combo of truth in back to back posts. I couldn't agree with both of you more.
