You think Putin actually backs down if he is still in power?

Only if he's forced to, by one means or another. He won't stop as long as he feels he has an opportunity to salvage victory, IMO. And even then he'll attempt to negotiate a victory.

I don't follow this nearly as close as you, but I think any peace agreement will require the lifting of sanctions immediately. Do you think we're willing to do that?

And now for something completely different.

So Putin can just walk away from tens of thousands of deaths and hundreds of billions of damage to Ukraine? No.

Any agreement beyond and ends with Russia leaving and making restitution. Sanctions don't end until aggression is completely halted, meaning all Russian forces withdraw to their home bases and all Ukrainians are returned to Ukraine.

Looks like a strike amidships that hit the P1000 tubes and one aft just forward of the helipad (or that's scorching from a fire). She didn't sink in minutes, and maybe they rescued a fair number of the crew, but that vessel was definitely ****ed up.

Also looks like a pretty serious fire below decks. You can see scorch marks where it was coming out where the hull meets the upper deck. Kind of doubting the entire crew made it out.

His parents used to own the "The Pantry & Grill Room" on SPI, in Franke Plaza where Gabriella's is now. I waited tables and bartended for them in 80's and worked with Bonner, that is what he goes by or did, then. He was a major doper, his brother had to leave the island after dropping dime on some semi connected people from Matamoros.

His parents were really good people, his mom died several years ago and she babied Bonner and was always helping him outta bad spots. He got popped running large amounts of weed for the guys, his name was Jack I can't remember the last name but he had the dune buggy rental place in Laguna Heights. Bonner never turned on anyone and was a fugitive for years. He has always had substance abuse issues and from looking at him he is hitting the vodka hard. He is a hamm that always wants the spotlight and to be fawned over, he is the most opposite of communist that I have ever known.

we have been so worried about the Russian military for 40 years now.

but after the past 50 days, it's pretty obvious that NATO would be able to annihilate most of the Russian Army in about a week.

Still weird to hear "Blueberry Hill" in a Russian accent.

My late sister and her husband took a cruise back in the early 80s with an Italian crew. They would sing Billy Joel's song as "I luva you justa way you arrrrrra!"

I agree and Europe needs to step it up and take some leadership in this matter. Pathetic effort is the best description of their helping their neighbor in need. Imagine if Europe took up the fight with Ukraine, that would be the end of the Russian empire. A new Europe with manly balls.

WTF are they waiting for, they have an open invitation and Ukrainians have proven their mettle and courage in the face of overwhelming odds.

This quite possibly is just fabricated internet bull**** but it sounds plausible and could be a legitimate excerpt from an article.

Found a very good (and very long) explanation of these bat**** crazy Russians.

https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1516162437455654913.html

Finally, I can at last begin to understand where Russians are coming from and the garbage that gets spewed.

Ukraine has historic roots in democracy, they belong with the West. And the Russian goal is genocide.

Some highlights from the article:

/….In this respect Russian state didn't change much since 1654. As Putin's deputy Kirienko told in 2017, "Russian state is not based on treaties". Treaty is a restraint on the Tsar's power, a condition he abides to committ. That's a dishonour and he breaks treaty at the first chance.

….Most people consumed little or no cultural content except the one provided by the priest. Church selected, censored and distributed the content for the masses: in this sense it was immensely important, much like social media nowadays. Church used to be the TikTok. Ukrainians elected their priests, collectively determining who will control the cultural content distribution in their locality. No wonder that priest elections were *the* focus of mass political life. For centuries Ukrainians practiced in campaigns, voting, electoral politics. Russians didn't have this chance. Russian state had more time and more opportunities to exterminate any forms of personal agency, collective action and political participation in Russia than in Ukraine, which was conquered late and integrated into the empire even later.

….And vice versa, for adherents of Russian cultural memes, Shevchenko was the mortal enemy. He articulated Ukrainian memes: political, cultural, linguistic. Ukrainian memes should be destroyed and Russian cultural standard imposed all over Ukraine. Cultural uniformity - that's the real goal of Z-war. It is all about directing vernacular bifurcation of the ancient sacred community towards everyone becoming Russian. The problem with Ukraine is that it exists. That's a view deeply embedded in the Russian culture.
