Does Georgia and/or Chechnya still have a smoldering insurgency? As Putin redeploys troops to Ukraine might they get organized again? Maybe some of these supplies need to go there…

I get it, and you may be borne out by the outcome. Sanctions are nevertheless what brought the Japanese to Pearl Harbor and the Philippines.

In January, experts on the same show estimated that Russia could overtake the entire neighboring country in a matter of 11 minutes. Their current predictions have shifted from minutes to decades for the Russian armed forces to achieve Putin's goals in his senseless war against Ukraine.
Korotchenko surmised, "It's obvious that the process of denazification of Ukraine will take the minimum of 15-20 years." He predicted that the Russian troops would have to remain on Ukrainian territory, with the Russian military in charge of the entire country for the foreseeable future: "Whether this will take 15, 20 years or more, time will tell."
General Shamanov was even more pessimistic, as he grimly anticipated that it would take the "re-education" of at least two generations of Ukrainians before they would welcome or tolerate Russia's dominance. He also noted that Russia's one-million-man armed forces aren't enough to meet such a challenge, calling for massive increases to the country's military might. Shamalov concluded: "Today, it can be clearly predicted that we will have to remain in Ukraine for 30-40 years."

This is Melitopol (where Spaceman's fam is). Under Russian occupation but not destroyed. Lots of kidnappings and FSB bullisht. Mariupol, farther east, is the Alamo. I imagine that folks In Melitopol feel the same way but we'll have to see how it goes. Praying for all of them.
Unfortunately this shows what the real problem is in Russia. As much as the Russian apologists on the board want to blame NATO for "threatening" Russia by having a friendly Ukraine, that's not the problem that led to war. The Russians can't handle that the inferior Ukraine, Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, and other Soviet and Russian Empire components aren't under Russian control. There may be the underlying concern of having padding around their border for opposing armies to go through, but thats mainly due to the fact that they are stuck in the 1900s in terms of a mindset. No one should have to sacrifice their freedom for Russia's insecurities.PJYoung said:Cracks appearing in Putin’s wall of lies. Stationing our troops in the west wouldn't have prevented the Russians from entering Donbas and if we stationed troops in the east, Russia would have just sent his little green men to turn up the heat on the existing civil war.12th Man said:
I can't quite see it your way, but I understand it.
In hindsight, I think the best move would've been to be in Ukraine in force before the invasion could've started. I don't think the Russians would've invaded had there been 5000 or so American military there embedded with the Ukrainians. If these sanctions outrage the Russians instead of deterring them, we may end up with far more people in harms way than what we could've gotten away with in January. This is just a guess, though.
Nobody knows, and I hope you're right.
