Adidas has suspended its partnership with the Russian Football Federation in the latest backlash to Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

The German sportswear giant has served as the country's kit manufacturer since 2008, designing the shirts for their home World Cup in 2018.

But they have put their agreement with the Russian national team on hold as the death toll rises in Eastern Europe.

Putin is probably going to do something (not a nuke strike) to embarrass Biden during the SOTU. Not sure if it will be a cyber attack, large scale bombing or Kyiv, or something else but I bet he plants to put a stick in Biden's eye while he is addressing Congress (and the world.)

He won't do it but I'd respect Biden if he changed his entire SOTU to focus on the war in Europe and rally Americans and Congress around a response.

Give a speech about DIB, pronouns, build back better, masks, free covid tests, and all the other trivial BS his administration is working on domestically next month.
Why would he try to embarrass the guy that is buying oil from his country and funding the aggression against Ukraine?

Putin is putting Russia into a very isolated place, and his people have had a taste of the good life for quite a long time now. He keeps isolating them further and he might wake up dead one day soon.

The Russian Mafia will have to furlough their entire staff if they can't get Adidas track suits

Wasn't it Napoleon that said "Never interrupt your enemy when they're making a mistake?"

The election of Biden was certainly a mistake and having him give a speech, of this magnitude at this moment in history, will likely be one as well.

How long until Putin starts listing off countries who are complicit in war crimes against Russian peacemakers by providing arms?
So what if he does?

If he goes in Alphabetical order we should be towards the end. He wont have anything left for us.

Talking to some ex-military, I understand that a lot of the information released concerning lethal aid from other countries is probably 48 hours old by the time we see it.

I don't think anyone understands who or what in Ukraine is arrayed against the Russian army. If economic sanctions can so quickly be formed and instituted against Russia, imagine what form of military action has been enacted, especially since this invasion has been predicted for weeks. If we had any new weapon systems, it sure would be tempting to field test it against one of our primary enemies.

Old drone story, but provides some background.

https://www.thedefensepost.com/2022/02/18/ukraine-stealth-attack-drone-russia/

Quote:

Ukraine's special operations force has unveiled a fleet of indigenous "Punisher" stealth attack drones.

The catapult-launched electric vehicle carries three powerful munitions capable of damaging military vehicles within a radius of 50 meters (164 feet).

At 2.28 meters (7.5 feet) wide, the unmanned aerial vehicle can fly up to 30 miles (48.2 kilometers) at a maximum altitude of 396 meters (1,300 feet) controlled by a ground pilot with a laptop computer, The Sun reported.
Quote:

According to the manufacturer, the drone has been deployed against the country's pro-Russian rebels since 2016, executing "hundreds" of successful missions.

"It has been causing havoc behind pro-Russian lines on Donbas for years because the enemy has no idea what has hit them.

"It's relatively small and light enough to be undetectable to radar and you can't see or hear it once it's airborne which makes it a nightmare on the battlefield.

Ukraine Seafarer Charged in Partial Sinking of Russian Oligarch's Superyacht

A Ukrainian seafarer has been charged in Majorca for partially sinking a Russian oligarch's superyacht.

The ship's chief mechanic is accused of opening the valves in the engine room of Lady Anastasia, which belongs to Alexander Mijeev, the chief executive of Rosoboronexport, a Russian weapons company.

"There was a video of a helicopter attack on a building in Kyiv, the Russians are killing innocents. I don't regret anything I've done and I would do it again," the mechanic, Taras Ostapchu, told the court.

He had worked on the 157-foot Lady Anastasia for 10 years. The boat is for sale for $7.2 million and has been on the market since April last year.

The sailor was released pending an ongoing probe and told the local newspaper Ultima Hora that he would book a flight to Poland and then cross the border to Ukraine to fight the Russian troops.

"As soon as I reach the first Ukrainian city, I will look for a military commander and ask him if they need me," he was quoted as saying. "I had a good job as head mechanic on the boat and a good salary but I am going to fight for my nation. I am not a hero, I'm a middle-aged man, but I have a lot of experience as a mechanic. I've never held a weapon but if necessary I will."

One thing I want to talk about real quick is the topic of Russian oil/oil sanctions because I've seen a lot of uninformed takes on the subject.

I think it's important to realize amy Russian crude that is being imported today from Russia was contractually agreed to and physically bought a month or two ago. Furthermore a lot of the crude is on ships for weeks as it is exported to it's eventual dedtination (again money has already changed hands). So you won't really see the effect on Russian oil imports for another month or two really. One thing to note, even though there are no sanctions yet on Russian crude, the differential between Urals and brent is substantial and growing (it wasn't big prior to the invasion). This suggests a serious lack of buyers for Russian crude. A lot of self sanctioning going on this front. But the truth is there is not enough crude in the world to meet demand to completely ignore Russian crude.

Us production will need a serious capital surge to begin an inflection point. And that will likely take 6-8 months to begin to materialize. Crude prices are going to be very volatile and specilative for the next 6+ months before the physical side has a chance to catch up. Oil prices have substantial upside risk IMO for Q2 and there really isn't much that can be done to stop it at this point.
