Russia has a GDP smaller than Texas. If Russia doesn't win immediately, this thing could drag out for years and destroy the Russian economy. This isn't the same Ukraine that he picked a fight with in Crimea. The Ukrainians have well equipped armies and militias who are used to fighting technologically superior forces. They also have hand held anti-tank missles that could really drag things out.


I don't think Putin would risk that. Thus, this is just a bluff like the last time. He is flexing his muscles and looking for some sort of concession.

I would guess if Taiwan is attacked by China they have plans to destroy as many of China's dams as possible including the 3 Gorges dam. During the recent rainfall last year as the 3 Gorges dam approached capacity death toll estimates if the 3 Gorges dam failed reached as high as 400 million.

I think it's much more likely that you'll see a coup attempt than any invasion.

The current opposition leader is jailed on treason charges and the country is divided between those who want to align with Russia and those who want to align with the US/EU.

There has been heavy US and Soros involvement in Ukraine for almost 20 years, so much like the situation here it's deeply divided.

Chinese figuring out how to float must be an unsurmountable problem.

China has put a lot of resources into air defenses around 3 Gorges and other dams. It's also pretty deep inland, not an easy target to get to, let alone hit.

Also have to consider ethical, moral, and war crime implications as attacking such a structure would lead to many times more human deaths than any act or any war in the history of mankind.

If they do it, they'll create some scenario where "ethnic" Russians are being abused, oppressed, whatever in the Ukraine and will use that as a justification for invasion. Same script as the Crimea.

The French Foreign Legion comprises soldiers from over 100 countries- none of these is France, however. Their officers are (or may be) French, but they're essentially a force of foreigners. A damned tough one, though.

I do agree with you vis--vis the paradigms about the French though: their military is highly professional and competent and they were bad hombres during OEF.
