The Left definitely overplayed its hand. James Carville defined a good bit of it:

"Don't just look at Virginia and New Jersey," Carville told PBS' Judy Woodruff. "Look at Long Island, look at Buffalo, look at Minneapolis, even look at Seattle, Washington. I mean, this 'defund the police' lunacy, this take Abraham Lincoln's name off of schools. I mean that people see that."
"We're letting a noisy wing of our party define the rest of us. And my point is we can't do that," Carville told Cuomo. "I think these people are all kind of nice people. I think they're very naive, and they're all into language and identity. And that's all right. They're not storming the Capitol. But they're not winning elections."

People are tired of hearing that they are either oppressors or oppressed. They are tired of hearing that, unless they support everything the AOCs and Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumers of the world put out there, they are racist, homophobic, bigoted, etc., etc., etc. People are tired of hearing that police "have it out" for Black people. They are tired of hearing that boys who think they are girls on any given day should be allowed into the bathrooms with their sisters, daughters, granddaughters, etc. They are tired of watching wildly overpaid multimillionaires take a knee when the National Anthem is played. They're tired of spending that puts us on a path to European style Socialism as it robs from the future of our children and grandchildren. They are tired of being told they support The Big Lie (a term invented by Hitler to incense the masses against Jews) if they believe that the 2020 election was tilted left by mail-in voting on a massive scale, and that shutting down vote counting in the middle of the night, minuscule water leaks being declared emergencies, and taping over windows at precincts is all part of a free and fair election. They are tired of the mainstream media and big tech shutting down what have since proven to be true stories about Hunter Biden, while they took the sitting President off of social media. They are tired of the Vice President publicly encouraging wealthy persons to donate money to pay legal fees for those who burned, looted, killed dozens, and caused $3 billion in damage to our nation in 2020. Yes, the Left has overplayed its hand, and people are waking up.
