MCCARTHY: President Biden said he's going to bring us back. He's brought us back to the '70s, being held hostage in Afghanistan, oil prices the highest that we have seen, begging OPEC to produce more.

We aren't even close to $100 a barrel.

MCCARTHY: And now we're watching that they are trying to cheat within elections, inflation at a number we have not seen. This is Jimmy Carter on steroids.

The election cheating has been beaten to death with nothing proven and some lawyers being sanctioned for frivolous lawsuits and tax payers having to spend money on defunct audits and replacing the voting machines they tainted.

Inflation is nowhere near the 1980 peak of 14.6%.

MCCARTHY: Why aren't they protecting the border from those 5,000 prisoners who have just left Afghanistan...

Is he referring to the up to 5,000 Taliban poisoners the Trump administration released by March 10, 2020 as part of their withdrawal agreement with the Taliban "as a confidence building measure"? What basis is he making the accusation that the have "just left Afghanistan" and are coming to the US?

MCCARTHY: And for the Democrats to bring us back into Congress to try to pass a new election law that would ban -- it's unconstitutional, but would ban I.D. voting, to try to spend almost $5 trillion.

The bill does not ban voter ID laws, but it does allow voters who do not show that ID to instead submit signed statements under penalty of perjury attesting to their identity and eligibility to vote.

The claim that the bill will try to spend almost $5 trillion should be easily recognized as being absurd. But who knows.

I didn't read most of it, but your last paragraph is a lie. It gets rid of ID. I don't have to have a valid ID to vote. I just have to sign something. I don't have to prove my identification.

Have a good day Keef and please try to stop lying. Thanks.

1980 was 41 years ago.

people less than 41 years of age, have not seen inflation. ( I know I know....that's a huge general statement).

The median age in the US of A is 38 years old.

Whataboutism is a phrase coined by hypocrites to avoid defending accusations of their hypocrisy. This is no different. You vote for some of the worst pathological liars in history and then come here complaining about a politician lying by refuting their "lies" with other lies.

Pathetic attempt from another paid Soros bot. Nothing more.

Could be that McCarthy meant numbers (inflation/oil prices) not seen since he has been in Congress. It has been over 40 years... At worst this is spin or exaggeration.

Ban voter ID - well it DOES. The signed affidavit is toothless and completely useless, because the ballot itself is protected from fraud with or without the signed affidavit. This is a pathetic strawman.

Lastly, our border is chaos. Close to 1.5 million apprehensions year to date alone. The majority in Texas. That excludes the ones not caught, which is estimated to be between equal to and 3X the ones caught.

WE HAVE NO SOUTHERN BORDER THANKS TO BIDEN

Now, Mr. Bot, do Biden's defense of has massive failure in exiting Afghanistan.

In effect, it is.

It more or less nationalizes voter identification standards (probably unconstitutionally) and makes those standards very weak. It's been well established by the 2020 election that ID verification has to be up front to be effective, as after the fact resolutions are often disregarded by courts as no longer relevant regarding election tabulations and certifications, and there simply aren't recourses to properly validate ID claims and litigate outcomes in the short time window following an election without causing chaos. The voters simply must do their own part in being personally responsible as a citizen and procure their own valid form of ID and use it at the right location or by the proper means.

There is something else he's missing. Real inflation is closer to 10% in core items for food, transportation, energy, housing etc. To combine that look at the difference in savings rates vs. inflation. CD rates in 1980 were within a .25 point of inflation. Inflation is currently around 6% (once August is figured in) in the official releases. Savings rates on CDs now are less than 1%. That means that even back then if you were protecting your money you weren't losing wealth. Today you are. 40 years ago wages did not keep pace with inflation which was the main cause of the crunch in purchasing power. Now you have a double whammy of wages not keeping pace with inflation AND negative savings due to inflation. With current monetary policy you cannot afford to raise the fed rate. Which means savings rates will continue to be in this destructive path which will force more money into riskier investments and out of savings. If this corresponds to a crash or recession of any kind while inflation continues you will melt down a pretty hefty amount of US savings and further limit the ability of a recovery and increase inflationary pressure. Wheeeee.

Border protection is a farce at this point, with the administration simply abdicating responsibility and leaving border enforcement hanging in the wind with hopelessly little support and plenty of new administrative obstacles.

I'll agree the oil prices and inflation, while they are near or at recent highs, are not at the hyperbolic levels that are claimed. Oil prices aren't bad considering we are still a top global producer, but we are also a top consumer.

The inflation is a Problem if it continues at elevated rates, because it is approaching stagflation territory where prices discourage economic activity and consumption, and growth slows with inflated prices persisting.

Since this OP is an obvious troll let's just look at that claim. In 1977 oil was at its peak at $45/bbl. $45 in 1977 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $202.72 today, an increase of $157.72 over 44 years. The dollar had an average inflation rate of 3.48% per year between 1977 and today, producing a cumulative price increase of 350.50%.

That means that today's prices are 4.51 times higher than average prices since 1977, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics consumer price index. A dollar today only buys 22.20% of what it could buy back then.

The 1977 inflation rate was 6.50%. The current year-over-year inflation rate (2020 to 2021) is now 5.37%1. If this number holds, $45 today will be equivalent in buying power to $47.41 next year. The current inflation rate page gives more detail on the latest inflation rates. so adjusted for inflation of 44 years your entire premise is garbage based on simple economics

Can you clarify, because, as many people here have pointed out, border crossing arrests are at their high. The administration has also been committed to addressing the causes of migration in the counties of origin and has maintained agreements with central american counties to restrict the flow of migrants to the US. That falls far short from abdicating responsibility.
