Pentagon: Afghanistan evacuation will be ongoing for "weeks"

Pentagon: There have been no hostile interactions with Taliban. US is in communication with Taliban commanders.

When asked if there's some arrangement with the Taliban, response was "I'll let the results speak for themselves so far."

it's crazy to say...but the Taliban are saving thousands of international lives by leaving the airport alone.

(probably making up for that in reprisals against Afghan citizens elsewhere)

They want us out. That's why they are leaving the airport alone.

Why would they try anything now? We surrendered and they get to have their terror base back. The last twenty years have shown they can't defeat us on the battlefield, so I'm sure they're happy to have us and all other foreigners leave without incident so they can get back to the real war on women and terror planning.

Until the first suicide bombing happens in Europe, car drives through a market, etc.

This is correct. They really want to be seen as the peacemakers and a legitimate government that follows some sort of rule of law. They have declared the war to be over. We have declared that our mission is only for evacuation purposes. For them to attack the airport would lose, instantly, all the credibility they are trying to gain. Also, Turkey and Azerbaijan now have troops there.

They are too busy clearing house in Kabul and Jalalabad.

Taliban press conference about to start soon.

you seem to be forgetting about all the people who AREN'T at the airport. You actually think the Taliban are letting these people call for a taxi and just drive the roads and enter the airport so they can leave? F No.

Even Joe would have to launch an offensive if the Taliban captured the airport and killed or captured thousands of American civilians and soldiers. The result would probably be Biden's resignation but the Taliban leadership would also be killed. It's not in their interest to force his hand when we're leaving anyway. And there's probably a bribe, I mean aid, tied to the completion of our withdrawal.

They sure as hell aren't going to let us out of the airport though. So I have no idea how we'll evac people who aren't already there. Maybe the Taliban will give them a lift.

If they wanted too they would shell us from the hill tops with rpgs, mortars ect, and honestly they would inflict heavy casualties. We don't have the ability to sustain air support for long periods

The thing that's keeping them at bay for now is money, and the fact that if started killing from above and hit other countries Evacs it would cause world wide 1 day of military power against them that could destroy them.

The leaders want to live, want their cash, and are happy to use our weapons and tech at the moment to shore up their spoils. The problem is when the last couple of trapnsports are ready for liftoff in "weeks". Our cover only lasts for so long and it could get ugly if they wanted

Taliban telling the press that they have ordered their people not to enter houses. They've set up a hotline for people to call if they believe they may be a target for harassment. They are also saying there are some people disguising themselves as Taliban to commit crimes, and they are not tolerating it. Again, this is what they are *saying.*

Also have to keep in mind the Taliban is not some monolithic organization with a very strict command structure. Low level guys likely don't have much direct oversight. Apparently the Taliban also set up a hotline to call if people were harassed by someone claiming to be Taliban.

They are really pushing the PR of being peacekeepers.

On the radio, on a news brief, they said that the Taliban had the Kabul airport completely surrounded.

Said they are working with the Taliban to get US/NATO civilians through the cordon.

Don't think that includes the local nationals that helped the US. But could be wrong.

That's why it's so important for Turkey and other countries which have been relatively neutral to maintain security in the airport until we are gone. Taliban wants to have decent relationship with Turkey.

No I don't think so. I think they are waiting until they have the city locked down and have kicked out all western journalists so they can control the flow of information. In the meantime they are making lists of determining the locations of their targets.

My guess is there will be some sort of deal for foreign nationals to be allowed to leave. That's what makes most sense for everybody. What we don't want to see is some sort of Iran type hostage situation take place but given how they are acting so far I don't think that fits with what they are trying to accomplish. Them showing respect for civilians again fits what they are trying to accomplish.

They are claiming Afghan people who worked for other governments will also be protected as part of their forgiveness program, but we will see.

don't have to, reports are they have all the biometric devices we used at the embassy for all the people that helped us. They can go door to door and figure out who to kill.

They got plenty of time, no need to rush.

Also my guess is they are getting compensated for the order and civility at the airport. They don't want any westerns killed, that would invite retaliation. They just want the out

Well, there's already videos on the internet of dead bodies laying in the street outside of houses in Kandahar, so I dont think we will need to wait and see.

Makes it even worse to see a real face on the guy in the video. It's not just some made up internet schtick, because my buddy knows what the guy looks like and that it's him. I don't want to say what his plan is, not to give away any ideas. It makes me sick that I can't really do anything about this other than pray.
