I call BS. This was NEVER taught at any level of schooling for me. I have a hard time believing Africa's complicity in the slave trade is commonly taught in K-12 or higher education today. They don't even teach about what evil and depraved savages the blood thirsty Comanche were...it's always white man evil, indian good...there's no way they are partially or largely blaming black people for slavery. I call big time BS.

Africans weren't just slaves they caught other Africans, enslaved them, and were actively involved in the Atlantic slave trade.

Africans also captured Europeans and enslaved them in the Barbary slave trade, which began before the Atlantic slave trade and lasted longer

If you've seen the movie "Amistad"....that's one of my ancestors from Cuba! Though I've always was told we were Montes De Oca before my Grandfather dropped the "De Oca" during the bit below.

One of their progeny wound up in Guanajuato as a breeder for bulls for the Bullfights...until 1917 with the Mexican Agrarian Revolution. They shot my grandfather's wife and two kids escaping to Veracruz. Grandfather re married a much younger woman (she was 30, he was 60) in Brownsville.

Same Grandmother's Grandfather was the Port Master of Port Isabel. Two Champione brothers landed there from what is now Italy, took them off the boat and married them off to his two daughters...

Not to disparage you crackers but back in the day Gringos were to be avoided, they were uncouth degenerates not worthy to have as a husband, no better than the Apache around there at the time. There women, well that's a different matter!

I can understand that. I would never have wanted my daughter to marry a 21 year old me.

I am 100% certain that a brother to my g g g g (who knows how many Gs) grandfather did own slaves in the 1760s. So it's likely that so did dear old Gx grandpa as well.

You win exactly what I owe.

Not a damn thing

The whites couldn't go into the interior of Africa on slave hunts if they wanted to. They had a vastly higher mortality to malaria than native Africans.

That this isn't already common knowledge is just sad, but then again leaving things out of the history books isn't a new thing in our schools.

Thought this was common knowledge and just ignored. I graduated high school in 2014 and this was still being taught. At at quality conservative high school but still.

Do people really think Europeans were coming to shore in Africa and hunting for people on the continent? African tribes were enslaving each other for generations before Europeans were involved

Well, that's like your opinion.

The Europeans did not call the interior of Africa "the dark continent" for nothing for they feared going into the interior.

The slave traders brought back stories of huge "ape men" that can tear a man in two with no problem, rivers teaming with man eating crocodiles, cannibals, and diseases like no white man has ever had.

Anyone who has any understanding of history has known about this forever.

They willingly enslaved their own people for centuries and also willingly took part in the slave trade both profiting off of it and encouraging it.

Do you how ignorant Most Americans are regarding history and many in the world.

With sprawling cities and castles that dwarfed those in Europe. They lived in peace and harmony with themselves and neighboring peoples. They also sailed to North and South America long before Europeans.*

*Read up on Afro-centric teachings. There are folks who honestly believe this.

It's weird you mentioned Amistad, I ran across that about three or four weeks ago and watched it again. I had not seen it in a long long time.
