I think that is supposed to read "gender-neutral", but we all know the media is crap. Riiight, I'm sure a tremendous number of women are avoiding becoming pilots because of words. Scary words like cockpit and airman.Quote:
"Research shows that the utilization of general-neutral language can lead to a more inclusive environment that draws more people to the industry and helps keep them there,"
Straw man argument.Quote:
By bringing more female representation into the industry, airlines could help combat a shortage of pilots that threatens to halt a post pandemic boom in travel.
No doubt the committee continues to scour FARs, manufacturer and airline manuals for racist terminology.Quote:
Though, gender neutral terminology will not target the lack of minority representation in the industry.
Origin of the term cockpit:
But of course these mentally ill people could care less.Quote:
It originates from the word coxswain, which was used to describe "the person in charge of a small vessel". It comes from "cock", which was an old English term for a small boat, and "swain" which is a servant. So simply put, a cockswain is a boat servant. Over time, the title led to the steering compartment of smaller boats where the cockswain sat, then the area became known as the cockpit.
