We are adding it to our list of optional holidays along with MLK, George Washington birthday, Columbus Day & Veterans Day. Staff gets to pick 1 of those paid day off
I am for dropping President's Day GW birthday, MLK Day Columbus Day even Christmas as federal holiday.s. And now Juneteenth. No reason to be honoring any specific individual with their own holiday

Keep NYD, Memorial Day/Independence Day/Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving Day.

Then put the others on an optional list that employees can chose from.
The federal government doesn't do optional.
then drop them entirely.

fed employees do not deserve these special holidays that others do not also automatically get.

George Floyd Holiday up next.

Everybody takes Fentanyl, feigns claustrophobia and passes forged money.

then you need to quite voting for politicians that pass the bills that enact these holidays.

That it's ****ing stupid since it as near unanimous and i live in a state where a Republican can never win a seat at the federal level

I declare June 19th as Whitey Day. Let's see how many businesses and schools close for Whitey Day.

Taking off for for a "holiday" to celebrate an event that occurred 135 years ago (and wasn't made a big deal again until the year of George Floyd, BLM, etc.) is like taking off for your birthday... just look around and see who does it and you'll understand. Meanwhile, the real work continues.

Senate unanimously passed it
that does not mean it is a good idea.
Never said it was

i have always said I find it to be a uniquely Texas holiday and should stay that way

Yep. Looks like the rest of the country is culturally appropiating our holiday.

Bump for an observation. I was shocked when I drove by an air force base on Friday morning and it was traffic-free. As it turns out, the entire federal government moved at record speed... in order to get a day off. Anyone who has tried to change a scheduled government event 48 hours out (or less) knows how hard it is, but they managed to shut the whole thing down so that they could be lazy on the day before the new holiday.

If you can do that, you're part of a wasteful welfare system, not a results oriented society enhancing capability.

95% of what the us government does is create the illusion of excellence.
