Ode to Rocky

I remember growing up in the 1980s. Everything was about the world getting better. So much positive vibe. There is a reason why 1980's pop is popular again.

Fast forward 40 years later. Lots of pessimism. When one of the most important trends in popular culture / cinema is the degradation of society, the prevalence of zombies and post apocalyptical worlds in fiction, you know that, collectively, our psyche is in trouble.

But, then, there are people that just keep posting upbeat, happy things to brighten everyone's day. Everyone's.

Give us a puppy, Rocky. And, everyone show him some appreciation with a star on his post (or two, or three, you sock loving sons of beaches), if he has made one of your days better.
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms … disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes… . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”

I almost missed your thread as I was shutting down for the evening. I could be here posting puppy gifs all night but this is all you're gonna get for now. Thanks for the sentiment. I appreciate many of you on Forum 16.

Ok when you started talking about the 80's and positivity and Rocky I thought you meant this Rocky from the 80's who accomplished the impossible and inspired a nation to believe it could win the Cold War. Or something like that.

But yes Rocky the Dog is great!

Sorry for the delayed response. I had to pick up one of my dogs at an emergency care vet clinic this morning and yesterday was a hell of a day finding her the care she needed. She's now home safely. Thanks for the funny meme. Here's my little girl...

Glad your little girl is doing better.

Sadly, we lost our beloved Blu yesterday. He developed a wheezing cough over the last week or so. Some days he seemed fine and breathing normally. He was still eating and drinking as usual. Thursday he was having more trouble so The Hubs took him to the vet. She prescribed a cough suppressant, a cortisone steroid (both pills) and then albuterol in a liquid form. We followed the dosing instructions but when it came time for dinner, he wouldn't eat very much. I used the old vanilla ice cream trick to get him to take his pills.

Thursday evening The Hubs put him into bed with him and I slept in the other room so he could monitor him. Blu slept okay until about 4:30 AM when he wanted to go outside. Still normal for him. But when daylight broke, he was nowhere to be found. Wasn't on the front porch, back porch, under the house nor in the yard. The Hubs jumped into the UTV and toured the ranch looking for him. No luck.

He drives back to the house and then was headed to the barn when he saw something moving under a shrub in the side flower bed. It was Blu. He breathing was labored and he wouldn't get up. So The Hubs picked him up (all 80 pounds) and brought him inside. Blu stood up and slowly walked into the bedroom where he then laid down. We tried to feed him and give him water but he was not having anything. That went on for about an hour and so we called the vet again. This time they did X-Rays and he had a massive tumor in his lungs.

The Hubs laid down next to him and held him while he was put down and said goodbye. He's just crushed and it has been a sad time since. This morning was just a cumulation of firsts for The Hubs. Blu not coming into the bathroom and laying on the floor outside the shower, not jumping up on the couch to lie next him, etc.

And we have houseguests coming tomorrow and we both are just so upset. He was only about 12 years old and we didn't think we would lose him this early. We both feel awful today.

You're breaking my heart.

When my Rocky died, I held him as the vet injected the solution. It was very difficult for me, as it was for your husband, so I know how he feels. I didn't start crying until I got his body into the car and drove off. Rocky was only 10 so I feel he got cheated of a few good years, but I found him on the street at 4 months of age (I know that from his losing his baby teeth a couple of months later) so he had a good life and gave me such joy. I wish I could comfort you and your husband more, but words are never sufficient. I am going to face the same thing soon with Chico as he is slowly deteriorating at the age of 12. There is great joy in owning a dog, but it comes with great agony at the end, and it's not the dog's fault. It's part of life.

God bless you both.

Losing a long lived, beloved dog is tough. They are part of the family. Lost my 19 year old MinPin two years ago and I still miss that dog. Sorry you guys are having to go through it.

Thank you for your kind words.

To top it all off, The Hubs got a text from his buddy who was not supposed to arrive until tomorrow. He'll be here in less than 2 hours! I should have expected he would screw me over> He quite fond of just showing up unannounced on the door step. He's the worst houseguest too. Has to eat constantly and drinks pot after pot of coffee, germaphobe, too.
