My response when someone gives this argument is that I'm not asian and I don't care what the asians do. Masks aren't a part of our culture and neither is mandating abnormal behavior on our neighbors.

Inevitably they say "what about laws mandating you wear pants in public?"

Well, doofus, the cultural norm of wearing pants in public predates the law by a long time. I don't wear pants in public because the law demands it, I wear pants in public because it would be extremely weird not to. The law (in this case) exists to deal with those bucking the cultural norms.

Thus, I'm wildly against making masks part of our culture like the asians allowed in theirs.

Would be interesting to see the same chart with current reporting standards applied. Seems that with stricter case reporting and mass inoculation of high risk groups, the downward trend was a given. I'll always believe it was a matter of population density and common sense over mask compliance. All the data I've seen suggests that mask wearing does little to nothing to stop spread.

For some now, for everyone I wouldn't doubt 5-10+ years. I know a few people say they were going to wear mask during flu season every year. Go ahead, I will live as normal. Plus you are ugly, I don't want to see their faces anyways.

honestly i have no clue. the answer varies depending who you ask. different entities, businesses, states, countries will all have different risk tolerances and perceptions as to when it's safe to resume "normalcy".

How can you guys continue to post the same crying, pouting, whining, petulant messages every single day. Do you just wake up each morning and go "man, my life is so miserable I better go assert my intelligence and worth by letting everyone on a dang message board know I don't wear a mask!". The states keep track of death certificates. If the CDC lies about how many people in Texas died in a month, I think that they would get called on it.

I'm just so sick of this liberal trash that says we have to live our lives in fear over a virus that has killed less than 0.02% of the populace.

I'm a healthy 64 year old. Covid kicked my arse May of last year but I survived. And when I say it kicked my arse I had fever, lethargy, cold/hot sweats, loss of smell/taste...but I got through it. It was no different than a prolonged flu.

They don't wear them all the time, they wear them when they could possibly be sick. Which is contrary to here where we have people argue it's an invasion of privacy to have your temperature checked to enter an establishment.

After this summer there can be no more excuse for restrictions. Anyone who wants a vaccine will be able to get one by then. Anyone who hasn't gotten one by then isn't concerned about the virus.

My grandmother went thru this and lived with us when I was a child.
Back then they didn't understand how germs work and she believed all kinds of odd things about catching the flu like:

"Don't leave windows open at night"
"Don't sleep with your mouth open"
"Don't sleep with a fan in the room"

What amazes me is we know so much more today about germs... but nutty ideas about how not to catch things is still going around...

I tend to disagree with some on this board, and say yes. At least, mostly normal. Normal to the point anyone wanting to live 100% normal can and will, but maybe you see a few masks here and there at most. Though the timeline has been longer than I figured. Remember, it goes normal when enough of the people say it has. Even some of the more staunch covidians I know in real life are getting closer and closer to just saying f*** it. The more they get vaccinated, the more likely they are to go about normal life. I was talking with some who say 2 weeks after their 2nd dose, they will go back to normal, and these were pretty hardcore lockdown, scared/fearful types. I believe that will be a common sentiment among many. Even they roll their eyes at the variant talk, and it doesn't appear to be working with most.

The question I have is our businesses, including mine, going to drop the mask mandate? Because literally outside of that, I have been living 100% normal since about May of 2020. So I'm following trends in Texas, both vaccinated percentages combined with likely natural immunity, and deaths/cases/hospitalizations. I'm interested to see if there will be a small seasonal spike in june like some predict, or if enough immunity will overcome that. But outside of that, we are all but over from an overwhelm the healthcare system type of thing.

I think after a few more are vaccinated, and numbers keep coming down, more and more will remove mask mandates, and we are already getting back to normal capacity everywhere I've been. So yeah, I think it will be basically 100% normal, outside of you'll still continue to see some wear a mask for a while.
