They did the same thing to DeSantis. He came out ok.
You may recall that DeSantis, as great as his resume is, BARELY beat some FAMU druggie mayor in the last gubernatorial race. Having done a great job, he may have an easier time going forward, but Dem ballot harvesting and cheating has gotten pretty well-refined and wide-spread. Kemp in GA is almost surely going to lose to Abrams next cycle.

A D gov...in GA.
GA voted blue in the presidential election.

Not really surprising - it is a state that is dominated by Atlanta in terms of population. Any large metro area is automatically blue, and GA doesn't have the rural population to counter what Atlanta metro does. No different than NY, CA, etc. in terms of where it is and where it will be for the foreseeable future.

Abbott doesnt seem to have the fight that desantis does. He doesnt/wont call a spade.
He just doesn't seem genuine to me. He strikes me as a typical spineless arrogant politician trying to sound conservative to pacify his base. To me, he was genuine back in March/April when he arrogantly told barbers "we'll let you know" when you can open. His true elitism and arrogance came though. I think he's been getting hammered by the conservative base and he knows that there are going to be some strong primary contenders to get him out in 2022. He's full of cliches, Texas must be resilient, stand together, blah blah blah.

Desantis to me seems genuine. He doesn't take any crap from the left. He seems to be speaking from the heart and off the cuff and he gives it right back to them. I've never seen Abbott do that. He's reading from a script. I'm glad he came out with the stance he did, trust me, but it's just a different vibe with him than with Desantis.

having said all that, I'll still vote for him if he's the R nominee. You people who are willing to go with a D just to make a point are crazy.

Let's say he's polling neck and neck with Beto in '22.

You're willing to stay home and risk Governor O'Rourke? Do you think that will result in better policies for Texas than if Abbott was Governor?

I completely understand an attempt to oust him in the primary. Depending on the opponent, I might join the effort. But opening the door for a Dem to win the governorship is chopping off your hand because you have a hangnail.
This. This **** right ****ing here.

You guys need to understand that while yes, Abbott made an absolute mess of things in handling this, you're still MILES AND MILES better off with him than Beta, or any other democrat. You think it's been dumb in Texas? Try living under Tommy Tyrant up here in PA. I'll take Abbott in a heartbeat over that ***hole.

If you don't want Abbott, then find someone to primary him, but for God's sake do not do something so stupid, so idiotic, and damned near suicidal as to not vote R or abstain altogether just because you don't like how Abbott handled things. Because God it can be so much worse...

There are multiple options.
Vote D to expedite the ship sinking in the hope that
* socialists discover hardship quicker and change their views in the long run
* conservatives finally grow a spine and fight back
Vote Abbott and continue the slow crawl to socialism.
* Showing support for him also enables similar beaurocrats to run because they know voters will vote for a terrible uni-party beaurocrat as long as it's their side of the uni-party. Ok short term. Terrible long term.
Vote third party regardless of candidate.
* Expedite rank choice voting and help break the power grasp the uni-party has.
Abstain. Only an option if there is no third party or you have no faith that socialists can have their minds changed with hardship.

Ideally Abbott changes course drastically and rights the sinking ship to earn our votes proudly or he is primaried by a strong conservative candidate, but I'm done voting for the slow crawl to leftism.

In the short term yes, a D governor would have destroyed us but hopefully in the long run two shifts happen.
* The indifferent general populace that just does what they are told get sick of the tyranny and start to vote conservative or maybe even push back a little against those advocating for leftism.
* Liberals push back on the leftists and bring their party closer to the left center.

That is the mentality that gets people like Abbott in power and keeps them there.

"Well, it could be worse!" Sure, it could be worse. But you know what? It could be better too.

The beef with Abbott is the fact that he unilaterally went into state lockdown mode, didn't call a special session of the legislature to vote on the draconian lockdown, quarantines, mask mandates, etc. and instead did what every single politician does when the opportunity presents - overstepped his shoes (or wheels, as it were) and got drunk on the power that he created for himself.

And it cost the state billions in economic loss, people lost their jobs left and right, and it gave way to people like Commandante Hildago and every other county judge to take the governor mandates miles and miles further in their little fiefdoms.

Abbott, had he a spine, should have pushed back against the lockdowns and mandates and kept Texas open, or at absolute worst not drug this bullsht on for 8 months, which is 7 months and 2 weeks longer than we were promised when all of this stupidity hit the fan to begin with.

So, it could have been better. A lot better. And I hope Abbott gets primaried as a result of the fact that it could have and should have been a lot better.

People that have fled socialist countries tend to overwhelmingly vote conservative. Whether a typical American leftist will change their views if the spent a few years under socialism is debatable. Although living in green pastures before living on dirt has a significant effect on desire for improvement as opposed to someone who lived their whole life on dirt.

Voting leftist is driving off the cliff, and I would never support that. Abstaining or voting third party is not driving off a cliff in my opinion.
