I probably heard it, but I generally don't like listening to mainstream country music much that comes out of Nashville. I'm just not a fan of how they produce their music these days, though there are exceptions.

I find it annoying to spend more than a few minutes in Tractor supply or Buccees for that very reason. It just starts to annoy me. That might explain why I totally didn't recognize the name.

Indeed, but rap is progressive.

And culturally beneficial.

When new posters like you show up, it is kinda cute.

My love of the writer of Cover Me Up is all I know.

I know about the guy in question of writing the song I mentioned.

So no, I never used the n word when mad, or drunk, or singing

Sorry you did, but some of us are just not like that.

But I have been wondering Paula Deen.protecting since that **** showed up

I don't condone it and it's certainly not something that should be said by anybody (including rappers and athletes...)

However, what does he gain by immediately "apologizing?" Nothing. It only feeds the beast of cancellation.

He's done forever. No matter what.

He music will be de-platformed (if it hasn't already) and will be removed from Apple Music and Amazon Music and Spotify etc.

He's done.

His music career is not only over but any career he's ever dreamed of having is over.

Is that fair? Is it fair that somebody could take a grainy cell phone picture of some drunks in a parking lot and the a guy should lose EVERYTHING for saying something that rappers and athletes say ALL THE TIME?

Earlier this week LeBron called a woman fan all sorts of hateful epithets. Is that ok? Why? Why is he allowed to lose control and say bad things?

Finally, a story. My daughter (white girl) plays middle school basketball and she has several black girls on her team that's mostly white.

When her team played predominantly black teams, the black girls on the other team would call our teams black girls...you guessed it. The N word.

So. I just wish we'd treat these things consistently.....but that's asking too much.

it is a difficult word -- one that has a lot of baggage..

Biggest issue I have is that the word is still used - and in the same way he used it in MANY "songs" and in MANY places in mainstream media. Once you say NO ONE Can use that word and we cancel everyone each time they do so- then that makes sense..

This is just a moron spouting off drunk speak -- I dont condone it, but I can see how if he listens to others say that word in the same manner ..

so dumb

You're spot on about apologizing. He did that because he's desperate and hoping to save his career. He doesn't realize he's appealing to pure evil: white liberals. He might as well be appealing to Satan himself.

At some point, enough is enough. A person should not have their lives ruined by the utterance of a word. I personally know a family whose daughter lost her schollie and was kicked out of a university because of some video someone dredged up where she used the N word. It's insane and must stop.

I think this board has been pretty consistent when it comes to the double standard of the N-word in the entertainment industry.

I work in a diverse field, and if someone took a video of me drunk and using that word, there's a good chance I would lose my job. And I would probably have some difficulty finding another.
