McConnell is playing with fire. I don't think these Washington swamp rats truly understand how pissed off the heartland of America is right now. Manchin from WV talking about getting rid of politicians who dared protest the election results. McConnell is honestly making statements regarding supporting the impeachment next week during the trial. If any R votes for impeachment next week, they are committing political suicide and will be primaried next chance we get.

I know these idiot politicians live in a bubble but talk about being out of touch with how pissed off the base is.

The fact that their f-ing city is teeming with Guard and cordoned off by walls and wire ought to be a clue.

Those that vote for it know that their seat is safe. McConnell knows this won't make a bit of difference in 2026. (I don't think he votes against Trump, using him as example since in OP)

One third of Senators come up for vote every two years. While the Turtle has time on his side, at least 33 Senators and the entire HOR coming up in two years do not.

It appears they want to cut the base loose. Is this a clue to a major platform shift to the left within the R's?

Here's a question. Republicans on this board and elsewhere (and myself) have often justifiably derided Democrats as the party of "feelings". However, I have read and heard over and over about how angry and pissed off so many Republican Trump voters are - and I know plenty of them. When did Republicans become a party of feelings? Is this the continuation of Tea Party populism? We have historically been focused on facts, but there is a lot less of that within the party these days.

This is not how our political system is supposed to work.

Then again, I hope every democrat president is impeached moving forward. Hussein should have been impeached multiple times for legitimate issues.

The impeachment trial after Trump is gone is such a farce.

Will Pelosi and Co impeach Reagan next?
How about Washington?
Jefferson owned slaves. Impeach him!
And Ol Abe was the nemesis for the Democrats for more than a century. Impeach!!!

Or it it just a banana republic attempt to get rid of a political opponent?
When do we begin political assassinations?
Better yet public executions of those who don't carry the Party line?

It's nuts to keep pretending Trump, Cruz, and Hawley merely "protested the election results." They variously pushed a falsehood that the election was stolen, attempted to corrupt other officials to change the certified election results, and insincerely presented a procedural formality as an opportunity to overturn the election. This was no mere difference of opinion or viewpoint. It was cynical, corrupt, and beneath their offices. They should be held responsible for their actions and nobody should be intimidated by your thinly veiled threats.

Feelings have nothing to do with it. The shenanigans of the election were an insult to our intelligence. Anyone who can't see the blatant fraud that occurred, including Joe admitting they had the biggest fraud mechanism ever in place, is either blind or ignorant.

Americans have pissed off feelings because the FACTS are that some shady **** went down in this election and no elected officials GAS enough to look at it. Get it right.

What is the political play of going along with this? It's to try to rid Trump and take back those voters. It's a very stupid move but these people were the same people who HATED the Tea Party. They hate people who think the swamp should work for them.

Then the play also of other Republicans is to appease people in the swamp to keep their committee positions. There's a lot of money to be made.

Also you have to wonder since the swamp is back in full control of all the Alphabet agencies how that controls things as well.

This pre-dates the election, though. If I had a dime for every time I read here or elsewhere, or had a conversation with another Trump voter, that one of the best things if not the best about him was that he pissed off liberals, I'd retire. The conversation almost always started with a feeling, not a fact with respect to policy. Why?

No you don't. You have a problem with the rule of law. Otherwise you'd be demanding an audit in all the states where the results were scientifically impossible. Guess that makes you pro-fraud and anti-science.

Why, because he used a legal recourse to contest election, and then held a rally? He didn't incite anything. If he had, CNN would be replaying the incite part again and again. Hell they won't even play the part where he said to do it peacefully. So yea, a few fringe yahoos did stupid. They are paying the price. As they should.

Oh an that was not first rally at Capitol. Happens all the time...

This is what we have now folks. A nation led by folks who are lead by emotion and hatred. A lot to offer us.

What are you talking about? Being pissed off about the ridiculous nature of what is currently going on in this country politically is much different than making bad policy based on feelings / emotion.

You don't care that states illegally changed their own election laws (I.e not via the legislature)? That's blatantly unconstitutional.

When conservative citizens unite for a political cause it is some sort of evil "populism".

When liberals/ "progressives" do it, it is grass roots social justice.

Just to let you know, a representative democracy is a populist form of government.
Unlike your mid-evil socialist "progressive" governments were the people work for a "king" or for a noble class, a representative democracy is intended to be "of, by, and for the people".

Calling you out. Nothing they did was illegal or illegitimate. They contested the election. Which is what your woman pelosi did in 2016. It was loud and noisey sure. And yea some yahoos went stupid and are getting arrested.

In 16 some yahoos from left also went stupid, and had major riots. In 17 they took over Hart building in Cap complex - Also from left.

So you going to attribute the lefty yahoos to Pelosi? Or you only do that to the right.

Hypocrite much? And don't tell me "this was different". That is just another lie from the left.

You want to solve all the division in this country admit that neither party is helping that all, stop the divisions most of which is bs anyway, and look for commonality.
