And there is an open opportunity here for SCOTUS to nip that "voter suppression" argument in the bud, if they so choose. OTOH, I have seen some computer experts posit that the scheme involved moving the algos to different precincts and areas over the course of the counting, meaning finding a machine with the same code on it could be a game of whack-a-mole. Hope I'm wrong about that, though.

Exactly. If one were to apply the trillion dollar budgets alloted to the government over a four year term to every vote cast, each would be worth thousands of dollars. Moreover, if you were to allocate these dollars across select swing state county votes (the ones that actually determine elections) they would be worth hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars.
Now then, knowing the value that each vote is worth, why then would we not regard them as securely as we do in financial instituions? I doubt you'll find any missing dollars at a US mint, or even at a bank after a brinks truck delivery. Votes should be even more secure/tracked.
