Republicans said that Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson's office told clerks in Michigan counties to "delete Electronic Poll Book software and associated files" amid calls to audit the election.
A Dec. 1 memo from the Michigan Bureau of Elections, which is overseen by Benson's office, states: "(Electronic Poll Book) software and associated files must be deleted from all devices by the seventh calendar day following the final canvass and certification of the election (November 30, 2020) unless a petition for recount has been filed and the recount has not been completed, a post-election audit is planned but has not yet been completed, or the deletion of the data has been stayed by an order of the court or the Secretary of State."
The memo was referring to Electronic Poll Book software and files contained on laptops and USB drives used during the election.
"Secretary Benson's move to request the deletion of election data amidst bipartisan calls for an audit is just another example of her putting partisan politics over what's best for Michigan," Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox said in a statement Friday.
Cox added: "With election irregularities rampant across the state, it is vital that we have this audit before any election data is deleted. Secretary Benson's move to delete this data before an audit raises a serious question, what are the Democrats hiding?"
This week, several witnesses, including a poll worker in Detroit and GOP poll challengers, testified in front of a Michigan State Legislature hearing, alleging improprieties and fraud were rampant at the Detroit counting facility. President Donald Trump's team, citing the Constitution, argued that the legislature should vote to call up their own electors to the Electoral College.
This alone should be enough in an honest world for the legislature to step in and halt this bulls***aggiehawg said:

On the morning of November 5, as the 2020 election hung in the balance, Arizona federal agents raided a two-storey house in Fountain Hills, Maricopa County, a county that had become a key battleground in the Presidential race. The agents were looking for evidence of a cyberattack on an unnamed organization and stolen voter data. They left with eight hard drives, three computers and a bag of USB sticks. The resident of the property, a 56-year-old IT expert named Elliot Kerwin, was served the warrant. He is not yet facing charges and was unreachable for comment at the time of publication. There is no indication that anything other than voters' information, which can be acquired for a few hundred dollars in Arizona counties, was taken from the affected office.

The warrant, discovered by Forbes this week, reveals investigators have been looking into a computer intrusion at an unnamed "victim office," which occurred from October 21 through to November 4. At the Kerwin residence, they were looking for any evidence within the seized computers that showed they'd been used to access the IT network at the office, as well as "protected voters' information" and any indication that it had been disseminated to other people.
Of the 15 county recorder's offices contacted by Forbes about the investigation, only one, Maricopa County, confirmed voter data had been stolen, noting that a federal investigation was underway. Maricopa County Recorder's office, which is just 30 minutes drive south from Kerwin's home, did not confirm whether or not the investigation was the same as that referred to in the search warrant.
"Analysis by the Maricopa County Recorder's Office IT Security indicates an unauthorized individual gathered publicly accessible voter information from our website," a spokesperson said. They didn't specify what voter information and declined to comment any further on the nature of the attack. The data trove could be significant; there were more than 2.5 million registered voters in the county for the 2020 election.
"Additional security controls were put in place to mitigate against this activity occurring in the future. The Maricopa County Recorder's Office has reported this to proper authorities and law enforcement personnel, and there is an ongoing investigation by the FBI at this time. The FBI informed our office today they served a warrant," the spokesperson added.

FEDERAL BALLOT RETENTION REQUIREMENT:If the office of President, U.S. Senator or U.S. Representative in Congress appears on the ballot (all appeared on the November3,2020 general electionballot), federal law requires that all documents relating to the election --including optical scan ballots and the programs used to tabulate optical scan ballots --be retained for 22 monthsfrom the date of the certification of the election. To comply with the requirement, the Bureau of Elections recommends that optical scan ballots and the programs relating to federal elections be stored in sealed ballot bagsin a secure place during the 22-month retention period. The documents subject to the federal retention requirement must not be transferred to ballot bags for extended retention until after they are released under Michigan election law as detailed in this memo.

This is not a nothing burger at all. The Michigan election is still clearly in a contested status. There are active lawsuits and requests for audits by several parties. Their law says that the data should be purged UNLESS it is still be contested or audited. Since it is still being contested or audited, her actions are an attempt to interfere with the proper adjudication of the election outcome and should be treated as tampering with the election.Chase said:BobaFettsClone said:I've read in several places that the retention requirement for election data, for most states, is 25 months.Prognightmare said:If businesses have to keep their records for the IRS for 7 years then election data should be held to at the very least the same standard.ClassicAg18 said:

I continue to think this looks like the GOP are stalling trying to find more because this is a nothing burger.
Federal is 22 months according to several docs including this one they are trying to make a big deal out of. It states explicitlyQuote:
