100% success. That crazy SOB did it.

To any naysayer- starship was expected to blow. Still has propellant in it and when something that large falls and hits the ocean (which is like concrete) it's expected.

Unbelievable achievement we just witnessed.

I wouldn't say 100% success. There was still some burn through on the flap. That said, though, it wasn't nearly what it was last time, and they should be able to fix it with the next iteration. This whole launch has been absolutely incredible.

Guess it depends on definition of success. They knew that was an issue and are actively working it. I agree it will likely be a non-issue on the next go.

They met all the objectives, but that design change wasn't 100%. If it was me, I'd want to get it nailed down before trying to land it somewhere else, but knowing Elon they'll just go for it and it'll be ok.

Eh. I believe this starship was already built when 4 launched, so they had made improvements but not changes and iterations based on 4s failures/success.

6 is already built so it's the same story.

5's "failures" will be implemented in ship 8 probably.

Remember when we first heard about this crazy idea of catching the booster and we're all like "You're going to do WHAT?!"

Then years went by of trying to figure out how this was actually going to work and all the CGI visualizations. But now it's real.

They'd already adjusted the flap design on this one knowing they were likely to have issues with it even before 4.

So for flight 6...what can we expect? Starship on land...a remote island or drone ship? Seems like recovering Starship intact would assist with design improvements. Then maybe on to orbital insertion and a deorbit burn?

Not gonna lie, watching those videos got emotional. I've never seen anything like it. It's absolutely a modern marvel and the most amazing thing I have seen in my lifetime they caught a freaking rocket that fell out of space. CAUGHT IT.

Yes, it is.

Put it this way, ask literally anyone who they'd want to see react to that landing, and the invariable answer would be Elon. You follow up and ask "are you sure you wouldn't want to see mine?" And your wife and mom might saw oh sweetie of course! Everyone else would say why would I care about yours more than the man that made it happen.
