If the speed of light shifts over space time then wouldn't the other constants also…shift? Probably a stupid question, sorry.

Yes. Thus the chaos I mentioned. There are many constants that depend on "c"

Here's a channel I like to watch about astrophysics

He talks about some interesting things in the resurrection of the tired light theory like red-shift measurements between galaxies rotating in the same or opposite directions and how the discrepancy seems to grow with distance.

He says to accurately determine if there is something to this, millions of galaxies would have to be measured, rather than thousands.

He also points out some red flags on this paper: i.e. it's written by one author, and many of the papers he references were written by himself.

Intuitive Machines, Inc. (Nasdaq: LUNR, LUNRW), a leading space exploration, infrastructure, and services company, today announced NASA has awarded the Company a Near Space Network ("NSN") contract for communication and navigation services for missions in the near space region, which extends from Earth's surface to beyond the Moon.

The contract has a base period of five years with an additional five-year option period, with a maximum potential value of $4.82 billion. The incrementally funded base ordering period begins Tuesday, October 1, 2024, through September 30, 2029, with the option period potentially extending the contract through September 30, 2034.

A key highlight of this contract is the debut of Intuitive Machines' lunar satellite constellation, a service the Company believes is a strategic element in its vision to commercialize lunar activities. The constellation will provide enhanced data and transmission services and autonomous operations, creating a robust infrastructure in line with Intuitive Machines' three pillars to commercialize a celestial body.
[ol]
  • Delivery: Scaling lunar lander capabilities to support cargo and infrastructure delivery.
  • Data Transmission Services: Establishing a network of satellites capable of delivering 4K resolution video data and navigation services, assisting in landing site selection and resource prospecting.
  • Autonomous Operations: Developing infrastructure, logistics, and mapping solutions on the Moon to facilitate exploration and operations.

A few more details on the NSNS contract that IM recently won.
    Quote:

"One of the requirements is a 4K data link," said Steve Altemus, co-founder and chief executive of Intuitive Machines, in an interview. "That kind of high fidelity data only comes from a data relay with a larger antenna than can be delivered to the surface of the Moon."

The space agency is also expected to award a ground-based component of this network for large dishes to receive signals from near space, taking some of this burden off the Deep Space Network. Altemus said Intuitive Machines has also bid on this ground component contract.

Approximately 15 months from now, the company is planning to launch another lander, IM-3. This mission is likely to carry the first data-relay satelliteeach is intended to be about 500 kg, Altemus said, but the final design of the vehicles is still being finalizedto lunar orbit. Assuming this first satellite works well, the two following IM missions will each carry two relay satellites, making for a constellation of five spacecraft orbiting the Moon.

Two of the satellites will go into polar orbits and serve NASA's Artemis needs at the South Pole, Altemus said. Two more are likely to go into halo orbits, and a fifth satellite will be placed into an equatorial orbit. This will provide full coverage of the Moon not just for communications, but also for position, navigation, and timing.

Those include companies like Cards Against Humanity, which just recently sued SpaceX for $15million because of a "land use dispute".

    https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/09/cards-against-humanity-sues-spacex-alleges-invasion-of-land-on-us-mexico-border/

    tl;dr

    • Cards Against Humanity crowd-sources $2.25million from 150k stupid liberals to buy land in Texas on the border in a effort to thwart President Trump's border wall
    • CAH buys said land with a "portion of the crowd-sourced" money via an LLC called Hole Holdings (located in Delaware and Chicago)
    • CAH does nothing with the land other than mowing the perimeter while also failing to properly mark land
    • SpaceX allegedly places equipment on land while marking the land as theirs
    • CAH cries foul and now wants $15million for damages, which they will distribute to the original crowd that funded the campaign.

How petty is this? Just check out their website. And throw away your Cards Against Humanity while you're at it.

Ellie reads the full response by SpaceX. FFS they're squabbling over where the hot staging ring will land! Everyone else plunks entire stages into the water to be forever discarded and a 3 letter agency is crying that the hot staging ring could maybe hit a turtle.
Thanks for sharing. I've added Ellie's channel to my watch list!

Since we're in the politics pause on starship, here's a concept I never heard about; Nova as a successor to Saturn V being adopted as a conceptual starting point for a 3 stage Starship to avoid needing refueling to get to the moon.

And I know, angry astronaut is a little obnoxious, but he covers some fun 'what if' ground too, and this leans into Von Braun ideas so it's sort of fun.

Still working on Raptor V1 (or more likely 0.5), but with a hover slam, using landing legs. Not sure SpaceX has any IP (patents) on the starship/raptor programs, though they have a lot of trade secrets of course.

I saw a post about SpaceX trying to send down a drone/sub to recover parts of the lower stage off port isbel but I don't know if this is really credible, could believe they don't really want the Chinese to go pull this up to study it:
