FedEx delivered our 2nd unit (for work) to the office on a Saturday morning. It's on our account with FedEx that this is a business and we are not to receive deliveries outside of business hours. So a StarLink sat on a strip center sidewalk. Well... Until it was stolen

The internet I had (AT&T) was 6 down 1 up with high latency. Just got Starlink. This isn't even mounted. The dish is just sitting in my front yard. Also this is "throttled". Starlink is awesome

I'm so bummed starlink isn't available at our new place yet. Hopefully by the time our initial 12 month deal runs out.

Finally got my Starlink. Grade A delivery job by FedEx. They put my dish and router on top of my trash can 1/4 of a mile away from my house on the street. Idiots.

FedEx seems to think trash cans are meant for deliveries. My last 2 deliveries from them have gone to my trash can and to my neighbors front door.

Maybe Elon can get into package delivery next.

When SpaceX "successfully" launched its massive rocket in Boca Chica, Texas last week, it sent more than just the spacecraft into the air. Local residents and federal agencies are reporting that the April 20 Starship Super Heavy test flight spread potentially hazardous dust and debris for miles and even ignited a fire after the giant rocket blew up over the Gulf of Mexico.

On Wednesday, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service revealed that the flight sparked a fire covering 3.5 acres south of the launch pad site on Boca Chica State Park land. Impact from the launch also left a massive crater beneath the launch padwhich also explodedsending concrete chunks and other objects flying. "Impacts from the launch include numerous large concrete chunks, stainless steel sheets, metal and other objects hurled thousands of feet away along with a plume cloud of pulverized concrete that deposited material up to 6.5 miles northwest of the pad site," the statement from FWS read.

The agency also found debris spread out over 385 acres belonging to SpaceX and Boca Chica State Park, though no debris was documented on refuge owned-lands. There was also no evidence the launch or debris it created harmed wildlife, the agency said. "At this time, no dead birds or wildlife have been found on refuge-owned or managed lands."
In an interview with CNBC, Dave Cortez, a chapter director for the Sierra Club environmental advocacy group, said residents in Port Isabel, Texas, located about six miles from the launchpad, also reported broken windows in their businesses, ash-like debris raining over the homes and school, and damaged roads.

The debris was also found across Boca Chica's beaches, which is home to several endangered species. "Concrete shot out into the ocean, and risked hitting the fuel storage tanks which are these silos adjacent to the launch pad," Cortez told CNBC, noting that it's not yet known if the debris is safe to touch or breathe or what effect it could have on the soil.

What? Why?

Not sure about "breathing" debris (do they mean dust? Probably not good) but the debris is probably safe to touch.

That's just crazy how close all that infrastructure is to the launch mount. There must be a way to spread it out more.

Because, steel, concrete, motors, wires and hydraulic lines are extremely rare and not found in daily life very often. Who knows if they are safe?

Not to mention the toxic fuels it uses such as Oxygen and Methane.

You know where they find Methane? In Natrual Gas!

We are all gonna die!

Yeah, to the S and SW is some land. It could work probably a lot better than trying to launch the world's largest rocket a few feet from the fuel farm.

They're trying to parrot the foolishly sparse NASA statements post Columbia. NASA wouldn't say exactly why the debris was potentially dangerous, and the average journalist is too stupid to know why, only that it's been dangerous in the past. They'll undoubtedly point to those statements, and the fact China has a habit of dumping hypergolic contaminated debris in places, to scare people.

It's an attempt to cement this as some "ecological disaster" in the public perception

Concrete/silica dust can cause lung damage, but it needs to be daily exposure over the permissible limit for multiple years. I assume it would be hard to be over the permissible limit 5 to 10 miles from the launch site as the cloud disperses out to a greater volume of air

Thank you, that was very informative. And it was good to finally get a comment from him about the flame diverter strategy

Elon Musk said:

Reason for going with a steel plate instead of a flame trench is that for payloads in the rocket, the worse acoustic environment doesn't matter to the payload since it's about 400 feet away.

I understand that about not harming the payload, but what about Stage Zero?

I'm still pretty sure 6-8 weeks is Elon time, which converts to 5 months. That sounds about right.

Great info. Said no proof engines were affected by the concrete. Said 80% chance of orbit in 2023 and near 100% within 12 months.

Friend of mine at Viasat said VS2 took 8 months to get into final orbit from a F9. FH will put VS3 there immediately.

EDIT... VS2 launched from French Giauna. So that would have been an Arian rocket. I presume to GTO, which then the vehicle would have then spent a prolonged time circularizing.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Wonder if a recoverable booster mission profile would have been possible at the expense of additional time for VS3 arriving at its final position in orbit. Though getting the satellite in service ASAP seems to have been a top priority for this customer no matter the additional expense.
