It bounced when the engines first lit up

There was some debris flying around when it launched.

They seemed way to excited about that blow up. Sure it was the first test but there is no way they were THAT happy.

Hope they got a crapload of data from that. Gotta figure out the Raptor flame out issues.

Really, it's kind of incredible the whole thing (stage 1 and 2) held together that long barreling along at 2000 km/hr or so. That's not an 'ideal' test but as indicated they just got a lot of structural data on the thing, with largely empty tanks on the booster stage (or at most half full).

I'll wait for the pro's take but it looked like at least 3 or 4 of the outer ring engines weren't firing.

Phenomenal test!!! Keep in mind that this ship and booster are over a year old and they've made hundreds of improvements since then, can't wait for the next one!

Nothing to be disappointed in. Incredible that it got off the pad and had a few minutes of nominal flight. The amount of power of even 27-28 raptor engines is insane. I think the next attempt they'll get separation of Starship from the booster. Lot's of good data for SpaceX to review.

Very impressive, didn't think it would make it up the pad
Maybe 4 engines didn't fire?

Was starship never supposed to make it to space? Just take off, separate, and then fall?

The NSF feed showed a lot more spinning than the SpaceX feed.

I thought the guy said "Unscheduled Rapid Disassembly."

Queued up the video to right before liftoff.

I'm old enough to remember the early Atlas test. Growing pains.

1st stage was headed for the gulf second stage headed for the pacific near Hawaii

Yes it was. Unlikely that it would happen on the first test fight, but that was the plan i think

The tracking shot that Everyday Astronaut had was a great look at the engine rings. Quite a few engines missing early on

The ship was supposed to make it to just below orbital speed before crashing in Hawaii after an hour and a half or so.

Anything past clearing the pad was a victory today.

It seemed like to me that they had trouble with keeping it oriented correctly from almost right after liftoff. But that is just going off Youtube video. Also, it seemed like it had a slight decrease in upward velocity shortly after it cleared the tower, then took back off again.

Watched liftoff a few times and there's a definite slide, but I think it's because one of the gimbaling engines went out and the others compensated.

Also on the envirowako front, there's now a lot more structure in the gulf for the fish.

Starship was supposed to get to space and terminal orbital velocity.

Planned altitude was ~150 miles up (low earth orbit)

At least 3 engines didn't light...

At least 2 more flamed out on ascent...

That didn't look good at all...vehicle lost control about 2 min in and was finally destroyed by ground command...
The flip was planned. The booster is supposed to flip and come back after the launch.

The problem was Starship was still attached.

Also, re-watching they called out main engine cutoff, but they still seemed to be on.

That was the feed I was watching, and I was wondering why they were taking so long to terminate the flight. Amazing it held together thru all that additional stress

Yes, I get that...Starship was also supposed to separate, but didn't...

They still have a lot of work to do...

I wondered the same...it's possible that it was a line-of-sight issue from the commands being sent to actually being transmitted to the vehicle while it was flipping...

SRB-detonation was and still is a ground command from RSO (Range Safety Officer)...not automatic...

LOL. But seriously, the OLT itself seems to look pretty good so far. Probably it won't be too long until spacex has their drones over to take some pictures.

Like Zach, I think those six engines never lit.

Almost a much different morning than what we got.
