Are there any visibility charts for the estimated path, or a profile that shows the altitude it will be at when it is due south of Houston/Galveston?

Well there's this. Pretty much a straight shot east to hit the Florida/Cuba gap I think.

The arrows were where the YT video author thought you could possibly see it. And it appears they did a LOT of work to come to that conclusion with the help of flightclub.io

I cued it up to the timestamp of when he's talking about possibilities to see it.

Yeah, watched that video yesterday. Hope the launch is close to 7 to 8am to get some assistance from the lower sunlight passing thru the plume

Some nice 100 to 110 db sound levels for those watching in Port Isabel or the southern portion of SPI

Is Apr 17th back in play?

The first integrated flight test of Starship is trending towards the third week of April, pending regulatory approval.

Also "What About IT" says the 17th as well

Cameron County still says "non-flight testing activities on the 17th"

I think they can turn non-flight testing into flight testing once they have the license.

Rough calcs:
At 150 miles away from the trajectory, it would be 5 deg above the horizon at 85,000 ft and 10 deg above at 155,000 ft

At 200 miles away, it would be 5 deg above at 120,000 ft and 10 deg above at 215,000 ft

Distortion and clouds be damned

IOW, "The only thing holding us up now is the government."

Imma remain skeptical, until I see it happen.

Are more of us coming around to the position that when Elon says they're only waiting on the government that may not be strictly true? Because I took a lot of flack for that position during earlier testing.

I've been there for a while. They didn't even light all the engines simultaneously until like a month or so ago. The pad was also nowhere near ready in 2021.

They need to get rid of B7 and S24 more than anything, they either need to launch it or scrap it to make way for newer iterations.

This is actually a great point. I think B7 and S24 are both probably multiple iterations behind the next booster and ship.

Also a general statement: I absolutely love this thread and have enjoyed following this whole thing with you guys.

Are these Gen 1 raptors or Gen 2? I thought they put all G2 ones on but I can't remember.
nortex97

They are all Raptor 2's.

The interesting thing is they aren't using the electrically vectored versions though, for the non-vac ones. That's a lot of pneumatics that…long term won't matter but I guess they really aren't too concerned with the re-entry/landing control.

Acktshually… the current booster vectoring on B7 is hydraulic not pneumatic. Just giving you a hard time.

The recent electric drive vectoring raptor firings in Mcgregor TX have been amazing to watch. I would swear the videos are sped up.

Will there be cameras within view of the "water landing" zone? Or do you think we'll only get telemetry?

I think for most of the launch window on the 17th and accounting for travel time around the world, Hawaii will still be dark.

Arming the Flight Termination System. Ie the explosives used to blow it up if it goes off course.

I didn't realize they weren't going to attempt a vertical starship landing. I guess they do want this to get wrecked (along with all engines) on the horizontal splash-down?

Booster will attempt a vertical landing on a floating pad so I guess that's something. Any reason why they don't attempt a vertical landing of Starship on a floating pad as well?

Booster isn't landing on a floating pad either. It has no landing capability. They may try to control it all the way down, but it's going in the water.

If they've iterated way beyond S24's physical structure there may not be anything to gain from testing the vertical landing (Elon has talked about getting rid of the forward fins, for example).

If S24 makes it past the heat shield portion of the launch I think it will be such a massive success that nobody will care anyway.

That diagram has the boostback burn pointed the wrong way... Now that would make for some fireworks. It would probably rip itself apart in a very big boom
