NET is currently 10 April but that's still fairly optimistic from what I'm hearing.

SpaceX is preparing to launch their new giant Starship rocket on an orbital test from its south Texas "Starbase"; after completing its orbital test, the giant rocket is due to splash down in the ocean just north of the State of Hawaii, prompting a series of marine warnings to be issued today.

...

After nearly circling the globe, the Starship will splash down just north of Hawaii, roughly 90 minutes after lift-off.

Elon said weeks so we are probably looking at late April at the earliest. Just a guess.

But I do expect it to launch the first day it's ready which might be wildly optimistic but the wet dress rehearsal went off almost without a hitch if you ignore two engines not firing.

You know it will be April 20.
Happy birthday to me...

I think there's a Falcon Heavy launch on 4/18 and Delta IV Heavy launch on 4/20 already. Delta is obviously not the same company I know but I imagine Elon will be gently nudged away from doing Starship that week so he can have all the resources and PR to himself.

Nah, if they get the license I really don't think nasa/others that matter really care about starship stealing PR from Delta heavy. Talk about a changing of the guard, though.

Seriously ignorant question; methane slowly 'burns' (evaporates/boils, whatever) off if in storage as I understand it; how long is this stuff ordinarily stored for (as here, at starbase)?

Yeah but NASA will have to support the Delta Heavy launch because it's a NROL mission. I doubt they want to split support resources.

Wow. Still curious if that's sort of what the methane deliveries starting likely means.

I was hearing April 10th for about a week as their no earlier than time. My office mate is rarely around but he's as well connected as anyone at NASA regarding the HLS launch date/times.

I'll check with him again at the end of the week.

Ha, no connections with spacex but I kind of have insight on some stuff. Like I said, I'm still seeing early next week but will keep an eye on things this week and will see if it moves.

April 10? Week from today?

https://gagadget.com/en/spacex/231807-spacex-sends-starship-to-the-launch-pad-and-prepares-for-a-historic-launch-on-10-april/

Officially, the Starship launch date has not yet been made public. However, Ars Technica's sources say that the huge spacecraft with its Super Heavy rocket booster, which together have 39 Raptor engines, will make its first orbital flight on April 10, 2023.

This doesn't mean they have a launch license, but here's an FAA advisory plans with possible launch dates

Checks with what I've been seeing, 10-12 Apr launch window.

Interesting. None of the nitrogen is recoverable, and if they fully load the stack with fuel/propellant, it would take a few days after an abort to refill/condition the whole thing for another go at it. Just another point to consider for those pondering a trip down;

This is all just another reminder of how early in the maturation of all of this starship stuff/GSE/support logistics really is.
