LOL, yes, nasa picked spacex for the lander portion using a starship derivative. You might look up the whole Artemis/SLS plan. It's a boondoggle by anyone's standards, but spacex is part of it.

This week's launch is just for a probe though.

Glad I didn't start a new thread for that.

The head of Blue Origin is an Aggie. He and Coby spent some quality time together, and took lots of pics with Coby's A&M flag post-flight.

Ok... Didn't realize the lunar orbit for the KPLO mission wasn't a direct to moon mission and instead will slingshot around L1 to then turn around and be captured by the moon!

Is Space X going to the moon?

I heard Artemis was going to orbit the moon in August, then send a manned crew around the moon and then land in '24.

Then I read Artemis is Northrop Grumman is building the rocket. Are they going to be able to do this, and better than Space X?

I thought Space X was involved in some manner.

The plan right now is for spacex to use a starship derivative for a lander. Each lander will be significantly larger than the whole station they're planning to build for 10x the price but....

Artemis MIGHT manage to launch an unmanned test flight this year... maybe. There's serious questions about the expired boosters, the fact the launch tower has serious flaws, is undersized, and they can't seem to actually fuel the whole rocket successfully.

The landing in 2024 is an absolute fairytale. Aside from the fact SpaceX will likely not have a lander ready after NASA waited forever to award the contract, the SLS itself likely won't take a manned mission anywhere near orbit until at least 2023.

I give the first SLS launch a 50/50 chance of even making orbit, and anyone not drinking the NASA koolaid/hopium is not a whole lot more confident than that right now. If the tower stands up to it, I'm still not sure they're going to be successful with the blk1, and blk 1b is still a good ways off even being vaguely realistic.

It's sad I'm almost hoping Artemis 1 fails in a way that causes no injuries so we can finally abandon the nonsensical mess, and start exploring EOR style missions from private providers.

I was wondering what the deal was since an article said it wouldn't reach the moon until December.

CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

Fake news, as expected.

So I randomly tuned in to NASA Spaceflight's live stream around midnight and watched as they were rolling booster 7 to the chopsticks. Just as they were approaching the area, something to do with the chopsticks' hydraulic system bursted and sent some pretty sizable chucks of material careening off the base of the chopsticks and toward the OLM. Hydraulic fluid can be seen spraying out and then running down the truss structure of the chopsticks. This obviously canceled the lift overnight. Hopefully just a single component issue which should be quick to turnaround. One of those large pieces of material struck the booster quick disconnect hood. Glad to see that component earning its keep. It is probably a good thing that the hydraulics failed before they put the system under load from the booster lift. That could have been… interesting. Operators of the SPMT must have been feeling fortunate that they weren't standing directly under the structure when this happened.

I've seen it reported elsewhere now, so agreed. I just assume everything/anything CNN puts out is a lie.

Real Engineering on YouTube just dropped a 42 minute video on SpinLaunch. Has all the numbers behind the concept. It's pretty in depth and thoughtful.

Okay. When do we truly expect Starlink service to be available in North Texas (Grayson county)? I pre ordered over a year ago. The expected service date was pushed from late 21 to mid 22 back in October (I'm sure you all know this). But, August is past mid 22 and the coverage map indicates we are a ways out yet. Any insight on this from any of you?

And Tesla also, full self driving has been a year away for 10 years. Semi trucks were supposed to be hitting the roads in 2019.

SpaceX original was supposed to send two starships to Mars this year.

Truthfully? It all depends on the first orbital test of starship, and what the FAA does afterwards. If the thing is successful, and the FAA let's the have more than 3-4 launches a year, it will happen quickly. If it fails, or this admin succeeds in hamstrings them through federal regulatory agencies, I have no idea

It just depends on your number at this point. They've shipped I know to folks even up to Sanger so it should be soon. Of course, it's all a bit random it seems in terms of whose order where seems to get filled first.

Will there be a super heavy booster test launch without a starship stacked on? Or will they go for a full stack on the first attempt?
